Bodle to leave Ollerton for neighbours

18th February, 2023

Ollerton Town have announced that manager Steve Bodle will leave them at the end of the season with fellow Toolstation NCEL Division One side Shirebrook Town subsequently revealing he will join them as their new boss.

A statement released by Ollerton on Friday morning read: "After Wednesday night’s game against Athersley Recreation, manager Steve Bodle informed the club of his decision to resign at the end of the season to take up another opportunity elsewhere.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Steve for over ten years of service, both as an assistant manager and first team manager.

"Steve’s assistant Lee Needham has left the club with immediate effect.

"Coach Daz Smith shall remain at the club but leave with Steve at the end of the season.

"We, of course, thank them for their service.

"The club’s focus is now on getting through to the end of the season, where decisions regarding the club’s immediate and long term future shall be made."

Their neighbours Shirebrook then put out the following statement on their social media: "Shirebrook Town are pleased to announce the appointment of former player Stephen Bodle as first team manager for the 2023/2024 season.

"Stephen, who played for Shirebrook between 2007 and 2010, is a vastly experienced manager who has been at Ollerton Town in a variety of managerial roles for eleven years, including as first team manager for the past two seasons.

"Stephen will be joined by assistants Lee Needham and Darren Smith, both of whom have been part of his team this season which has seen Ollerton pushing for the play-offs.

"Assistant manager Lee Needham will be joining the club with immediate effect to assist the current management and to help smooth the transition to the new management team."

Shirebrook are currently bottom of the Division One table but are only three points away from safety with games in hand in what is turning out to be a very tight race to avoid relegation.

Crag Barnes was appointed as interim manager of the Langwith Road side in January following the departure of previous boss Jordan Catnott.

Ollerton, meanwhile, still have outside hopes of reaching the play-offs, ten points away from the top five in ninth spot.
