Kay now in charge at Swallownest

10th January, 2023

Swallownest have announced the appointment of Liam Kay as the manager of their Toolstation NCEL Division One side following the departure of Alex Nightingale.

Nightingale took the decision to step aside last week in the hope that the club's fortunes improve following a run of poor results that have left them looking nervously over their shoulder at the relegation zone.

He had been in charge since December 2020 when he took over on an interim basis before being fully handed the role the following March.

Nightingale said: "I think it’s in the best interests of both the club and myself for someone new to come in and consolidate our position in the league.

"I would like to place on record my thanks to everyone associated with Swallownest FC for the opportunity to manage this special football club, it will always be close to my heart."

In response, chairman Martin Morton said: "I fully understand and respect Alex’s decision; he has given 100% to this role since day one.

"In taking this decision, Alex has put the club first and this decision is testament to his character.

"We would like to place on record our heartfelt thanks for his hard work, commitment, and dedication to the cause. We thank him and wish him well for his footballing future."

Swallownest announced on Monday night that Kay would be the new boss, assisted by Andy Stevens and Craig Walley.

Mr Morton said: "Following a thorough and targeted approach to filling the vacancy, I am delighted to welcome Liam, Andy and Craig.

"They fully understand the challenge ahead for the club; I have no doubt that with them at the helm we will quickly see an upturn in fortunes.

"I have been impressed by their vision for the club in the short and medium term and they share our ambition to grow the club in the longer term."

The new management team's first game in charge will be their home game against Beverley Town on Saturday (14th).
