An entertaining testimonial match for Steve Garner saw the Armthorpe Legends record a 4-3 win over an Armthorpe Welfare XI on Friday night.

The match celebrated ten years for Garner at the club in which time he had made 291 appearances, a figure that would have been even higher were it not for the COVID-19 pandemic.

As is customary in these matches, Garner got himself on the scoresheet, putting the Legends 3-2 ahead from the penalty spot after they had come back from 2-0 down with goals from Gary Collier and Josh Dodd.

The largely young Welfare XI drew level before the Legends grabbed the winner a few minutes from time.

A club spokesperson said: "The match raised a fantastic total of £1,300 for www.walkingsbrilliant.com charity W.A.T.C.H. to go to mental health charities.

"A massive thanks to everyone who attended the game and contributed towards this and thanks to all the players and match officials who took part as well as Andy Butler for managing the Legends team.
