Shirebrook Sign Ex-Stag Winger
21st January, 2013
Shirebrook Town have announced the signing of former Mansfield Town midfielder Joel Holland.
Shirebrook manager Mark Shaw swooped for the 19-year-old winger's signature when it was revealed just before Christmas that the Stags would not be extending his six month deal with the club.
Holland successfully came through the youth ranks at the One Call Stadium and was promoted to the First Team last June, but has struggled since to break into the strong and experienced squad that manager Paul Cox has assembled in their bid for promotion to the Football League.
Meanwhile, Holland has been out on one-month loan deals this season to Chromasport UCL Premier Division side Shepshed Dynamo and Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division struggler's Eastwood Town, to give him some useful competitive game time.
A very happy Shaw said: "Joel Holland has been highly sought after by clubs at levels above."
"We believe he is a player for the future and could be a real fan-favourite at Langwith Road. It's a great scoop for us and I am thoroughly delighted to have him on board," the Shirebrook manager went on to say.
"Joel is another young player that is wanting to progress with the club and he fits into our ethos of signing younger players who have desires to push back up the levels," Shaw said.
