Congratulations to Rossington Main who have been promoted to Step 5 for the first time in their history following Saturday's 3-1 home win over Horbury Town in the Toolstation NCEL Division One Play-Off Final.Main were looking to climb out of Division One for the first time in 32 years in the league whilst Horbury were hoping for progression in their inaugural season.
And, in front of a crowd of 1,164 at Oxford Street, it was the hosts who raced into a two-goal lead by half-time with Ross Hannah's penalty added to by a Bradley Grayson strike.
Tempers flared around the hour mark which led to Horbury being reduced to eight men on the pitch whilst Rossington also had a man dismissed but it was the visitors who scored next, Lamin Bojang halving the deficit on 64 minutes.
Grayson's second then quickly restored Main's two-goal advantage and they went on to take the victory that sparked massive celebrations for the side led by Ben Hunter.
Rossington can now start preparations for their new level of football whilst Horbury can remain proud of their achievements in their first NCEL campaign.
There was also drama on Friday night as the two League Cup Semi-Finals took place with both needing penalty shoot-outs to decide who will take part in next month's Final at Doncaster Rovers' Eco-Power Stadium.
1,320 watched a tense goalless draw between hosts
Golcar United and neighbours
Emley AFC as 120 minutes of football could not produce a breakthrough.
And, in an epic shoot-out, it was the home side that edged through 13-12 and they will now face
Winterton Rangers for the trophy.
Rangers drew 3-3 at
Handsworth before winning 4-3 on penalties in another tightly-contested affair.
Wilfred Peel-Evans' 20th minute opener for Winterton was cancelled out by Leon Howarth and Mitchell Dunne gave the hosting Ambers the lead in first-half stoppage time.
Steven Ridley levelled matters and that is how it stayed until extra-time when Josh Walker put Winterton ahead once more only for Dunne's second to make sure that game would be decided by spot kicks and it was the visitors who went through.
Meanwhile, Monday night saw one of the remaining two Premier Division games take place with
Barton Town 3-1 home victors over Golcar.
Thomas Waudby struck twice for the Swans, sandwiching a Kian Salter goal, whilst Slater Barkham-Barnes netted for Golcar who finish the season in ninth.
Barton, who are confirmed in seventh spot, host the final game on Tuesday when they welcome Emley AFC to the Easy Buy Stadium.
