Handsworth have become the third team to book their place in the last four of this season's Toolstation NCEL League Cup as they narrowly progressed from their Quarter-Final with visitors Garforth Town in midweek.A tight game ended goalless, resulting in a penalty shoot-out that saw the Ambers prevail 4-3 to join
Golcar United and
Winterton Rangers in the Semi-Finals with
Emley AFC and
Thackley meeting next week to decide the final birth.
It has been a round with uncharacteristically few goals with only one scored in the three ties played so far.
Meanwhile,
North Ferriby recovered from their defeat to second-placed Winterton at the weekend to pick up three points in a trip to
Barton Town and extend their advantage at the top of the Premier Division.
Danny Buttle and Amir Berchil netted at both ends of the game for a 2-0 victory that sees them now five points clear of Rangers who were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors
Maltby Main.
Brandon Bagley put Main ahead on 17 minutes at the MKM Stadium before Steven Ridley's penalty quickly restored parity.
Maltby played the final half-hour with ten men following the sending-off of Daniel White but they managed to secure a point that moves them up to twelfth in the table.
Third-placed Emley won 2-1 at home to
Eccleshill United to move within six points of Winterton in the chase for promotion.
Iyrwah Gooden's early opener was added to by an own goal from Jack Cairney before Louis Fialdini halved the deficit with his strike for the Eagles in the 50th minute.
Penistone Church, however, lost a little ground in fourth as Lewis Waddington's decider towards the end of the opening period saw them go down 1-0 at
Albion Sports.
And, in a vital battle in the race to avoid relegation, the bottom two sides met with
Bottesford Town romping home to a 7-0 victory over
Yorkshire Amateur who are now on the verge of having their place in the relegation zone confirmed.
Jack Yates, Clayton Bryant and Cliff Byrne had the Poachers three goals up after just ten minutes and then a Joe Simpson brace, along with further additions to the tally in the second half by Kai Thomas and Scott Neary, completed the rout.
The victory moves Bottesford to within a point of safety whilst the Ammers realistically now need to win all of their remaining seven games to have any chance of finishing outside the bottom two.
Division One leaders
Campion fell to their third defeat of the season as, despite goals from Patrick Sykes and Michael O'Brien, they were beaten 3-2 at
Wakefield AFC who return to the top five as the chase for the play-offs hots up.
Lewis Stephens, Mason Ruble and Kieran Ceesay ensured the points for the home side who leapfrog
Horbury Town who tasted defeat at
Armthorpe Welfare.
A Billy Rhodes own goal was a late consolation for them in a 2-1 loss after Jack Wilson and Jack Waldron had netted for Welfare.
Harrogate Railway Athletic took advantage of the slip-up by Campion to move to within six points of the table-toppers with a game in hand.
Jacob Robertson's double, added to by a Daniel Thirkell penalty and a Sean Hunter strike, secured a 4-1 win after visitors
Dronfield Town had taken a seventh minute lead through Joe Pearson.
The Rail continue to surge up the table having won eight games in a row and stayed unbeaten in 22 matches to climb to second and become the closest challenge to Campion's bid for the trophy.
Brigg Town's play-off hopes were dented a little by a 1-1 home draw with
Selby Town, Jack Richardson saving a point for the Zebras after Daniel Davison had given the visiting Robins a 22nd minute lead.
Dave Smith's side remain seventh in the table but are now seven points away from the play-off zone whilst Selby stay in eleventh.
And, in the fight to avoid the drop,
Parkgate have opened up a five point gap between themselves and the bottom three after a 10-0 home thrashing of
Ollerton Town.
The Steelmen notched up the biggest win in Division One this season with a hat-trick for Ross Duggan, two each for Liam Royles and Taylor Nicholson, and a goal apiece for Brandon Whitfield, Matthew Birks and Sam Thompson.
