The Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title race has been thrown wide open after second-placed Winterton Rangers won 4-0 at table-toppers North Ferriby on Saturday.A bumper crowd of 806 watched the game at the Dransfield Stadium but none would have predicted such a one-sided scoreline even though there was no doubt that Rangers thoroughly deserved to pick up their tenth straight victory.
It means that the gap between the two sides has shrunk from eleven to just three points in the past two-and-a-half weeks as the trophy chase hots up.
Lee Ridley gave the visitors a twelfth minute lead before Martin Pembleton and Josh Walker struck in quicktime after the interval to put Winterton in control with Steven Ridley's free-kick completing the scoring towards the end of the encounter.
Third-placed
Emley AFC remain eight points behind the top two as they won 3-0 at
Silsden AFC, Alex Metcalfe's penalty added to by Junayd Cassius-Gill and Rikki Paylor, to keep the Pewits in with an outside chance of having a say in the promotion push.
Goals in the final quarter of the game saw
Penistone Church prevail 2-0 at home to
Goole AFC, Jordan Coduri and Leon Hurles-Brook netting to lift Church up into fourth above
Garforth Town who were beaten 2-1 at home by
Hallam.
James Burgess grabbed a late consolation for the Miners after Oliver Fearon's double had secured the points for the Countrymen who climb to sixth.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare drop below Hallam after a 2-2 draw at
Golcar United, Nash Connolly's 44th minute equaliser for them ensuring the spoils were shared at the Skye Direct Stadium.
Along with Goole,
Bottesford Town and
Yorkshire Amateur were also beaten, meaning that the bottom three remains as it was before kick-off.
The Ammers went down 4-0 at
Thackley, Sam Nicholson's double along with goals from George Green and Thomas Greaves securing the victory, and they stay stranded in the basement, needing at least six wins from their remaining eight games to have any chance of avoiding finishing in the relegation zone.
Bottesford Town, meanwhile, were beaten by a 77th minute goal from Aran Basi in a 1-0 home loss with
Albion Sports that was played at Winterton Rangers' ground.
Elsewhere, Alhassane Keita and Lloyd Smith brought
Frickley Athletic back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at
Handsworth whilst four goals were also shared between
Barton Town and their visitors
Knaresborough Town.
Daniel Hernandez and Luke Jones were on the scoresheet for Knaresborough as they also staged a revival to claim a point from a two goal deficit.
And,
Maltby Main were single goal winners at home to
Eccleshill United, Aaron Sennett-Neilson's 54th minute penalty settling a tight game at Muglet Lane.
The title race swayed further in leaders
Campion's direction as they were 1-0 home winners as the top two also clashed in Division One.
Patrick Sykes netted early in the game to claim the victory over
Rossington Main and open up a seven point advantage over their visitors with three games in hand.
Harrogate Railway Athletic's seventh win in a row came courtesy of second-half fightback with a Daniel Thirkell penalty and Daniel McDaid turning round their game as they beat hosts
Selby Town 2-1.
That makes it 21 league games unbeaten for the Rail who are now two points behind Rossington in third place.
Archie White's injury-time penalty snatched a 2-1 home victory for
Staveley Miners Welfare over
Wakefield AFC that gives the Trojans a four-point cushion in the play-off zone whilst their opponents drop out of the top five.
Horbury Town jump above Wakefield after their 2-2 draw with visitors
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic although they threw away a two goal lead following first half strikes from James Cusworth and Benjamin Agu.
Brigg Town keep themselves in the hunt for a play-off place after a 5-0 home win over
Parkgate, William Taylor, Joshua Batty, Joseph Pugh and Alfie Usher scoring for the Zebras who were also helped by a Thomas Kirkland own goal.
Up into seventh, they leapfrog
Retford FC who were denied victory as Miguel Cassama's injury-time equaliser saw
Glasshoughton Welfare take a point away from the Rail Ground in a 2-2 draw.
The battle to avoid relegation, meanwhile, continues to be a fascinating and unpredictable one with
Athersley Recreation winning 4-0 at fellow bottom three side
Swallownest.
The Rec move out of the basement, thanks to goals by Lee Garside, Jack Wilde, Jack Briscoe and Connor Patchett, and are replaced at the foot of the table by
Shirebrook Town who went down 4-0 at
Armthorpe Welfare.
Meanwhile, Reagan Waud's hat-trick helped
Nostell Miners Welfare to a 7-0 victory at
Ollerton Town and Matthew Crowe was the matchwinner as
Dronfield Town beat hosts
Beverley Town 1-0.
