Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #49

9th February, 2023

Daniel Walker's tenth goal of the season made sure Winterton Rangers are into the last four of this season's Toolstation NCEL League Cup as the Quarter-Finals got underway in midweek.

The winner came in the 62nd minute for Rangers who were at home to Albion Sports and they are joined in the next stage by Golcar United who came through a tight game at Maltby Main.

That match ended goalless after ninety minutes with the visitors going through 4-3 on spot kicks.

All of the Toolstation NCEL's best wishes and hopes for a swift recovery are with Emley AFC's Joe Jagger whose serious leg injury after four minutes saw the abandonment of his side's Premier Division game at Barton Town.

The frontman, who is the league's top scorer this season with 31 goals, suffered a double break to his right tibia and fibula.

In a social media post the following morning, Joe thanked the match officials and his teammates as well as staff, volunteers and physios for both clubs for how they looked after him whilst waiting for the ambulance to arrive to take him to hospital.

Garforth Town and Penistone Church kept up the momentum for their chase for promotion as wins kept them third and fourth, respectively, in the table.

Daniel Coupland's penalty was added to in the final moments by James Burgess and Charlie Marshall as Garforth were 3-0 winners at basement side Yorkshire Amateur who played an hour of the game with ten men following the dismissal of Sam O'Malley.

Church, meanwhile, were 2-1 home victors over sixth-placed Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Nathan Keightley and Jordan Coduri with goals in the opening half hour before Nash Connolly grabbed a second-half consolation for the away side.

Goole AFC have increased the gap between themselves and the relegation zone to eight points after a 3-0 win at Knaresborough Town, thanks to an Oliver Russon double and one from Callum Petch.

Next-to-bottom Bottesford Town thought they had taken three massive points from their game at Frickley Athletic through an Elliot Owen own goal but Ben Hall scored in stoppage time to make it a 1-1 draw.

And, Hallam are up to tenth after their 2-1 victory at Thackley, Oliver Fearon and Iren Wilson netting for the Countrymen whilst Aidan Chippendale scored late on for the hosts.

Top faced bottom in Division One with the match going to form as leaders Campion won 4-0 at home to Athersley Recreation.

Daniel Illingworth and Aidan Kirby gave the hosts a two-goal advantage by the interval and their tally was added to in the second period by Luke Rhodes and Aidan Day.

They stay twelve points clear of second-placed Rossington Main who won 4-2 at Horbury Town who remain just outside of the play-off zone.

James Cusworth put the home side ahead but Main were 4-1 up by the 53rd minute, courtesy of Danny Deakin, Jack Watson, Paul Sherburn and Declan Slater with Eoin Schofield grabbing Horbury's second soon afterwards.

Joshua Batty and Joseph Pugh scored for Brigg Town as they beat visitors Nostell Miners Welfare 2-1 and the Zebras stay seventh, ahead of Retford FC who also won.

Liam Frost twice found the net for the Choughs with William Tomlinson also getting on the scoresheet as they beat Dronfield Town 3-2 at the Rail Ground, Joe Pearson and Henry Adams grabbing the goals for the away side.

Selby Town were 2-1 home winners over Parkgate, Connor Qualter and Alex Burton were the Robins' scorers, whilst Harry Hurst's brace helped Armthorpe Welfare to a 4-1 defeat of visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
