Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #46

29th January, 2023

Eccleshill United are through to the last sixteen of this season's Isuzu FA Vase after a penalty shoot-out win at home to AFC Liverpool on Saturday.

The Eagles played most of the game with ten men after keeper Edward Wilczynski was sent off for handling the ball outside his area around the half-hour mark.

But, the game ended goalless and the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division hosts went through 5-4 on spot kicks at the expense of their North West Counties League visitors.

Eccleshill next host Midland League side Atherstone Town in the Fifth Round in a fortnight's time as they bid to make it through to the Quarter-Finals.

In the Premier Division, leaders North Ferriby made it ten wins in a row as a Danny Earl hat-trick, added to an Antony Brown own goal and a T'nique Fishley strike, secured a 5-0 home victory over Silsden AFC.

The Villagers remain eleven points clear of second placed Winterton Rangers who defeated basement side Yorkshire Amateur 5-1 at the MKM Stadium.

The Ammers had taken the lead on twenty minutes through Adam Fowler but Daniel Walker ensured the score was level at the break before the home side took control in the second period.

Ryan Douglas, Jaime Ture made it 3-1 before Steven Ridley converted a penalty and Matthew Allison concluded the scoring in the 82nd minute.

Garforth Town and Penistone Church move up to third and fourth, respectively, going above Emley AFC who drew 0-0 at Goole AFC.

A Daniel Coupland spot kick was added to by Charlie Marshall and James Burgess as Garforth beat visitors Handsworth 3-1 with Alfie Smith netting a consolation for the Ambers who stay twelfth.

Penistone won 1-0 at Hallam with Edward Newsome grabbing an 82nd minute decider in front of the day's biggest crowd of 659.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare drop to sixth after a 3-1 loss at Barton Town, Thomas Davie with an own goal in stoppage time getting them on the scoresheet after Fraser Papprill, Benjamin Hinchliffe and Samuel Cable had struck for the Swans.

There were hat-tricks for Frankie Sinfield and Aiden Chippendale as Thackley won 7-2 at home to next-to-bottom Bottesford Town, the visitors now six points away from safety in the fight to avoid relegation.

Joseph Navier, Jacob Rose and Cameron Bedford were the scorers as Knaresborough Town defeated visitors Frickley Athletic 3-1 and it was a 1-1 draw between Maltby Main and Golcar United at Muglet Lane.

Sam Ackroyd had put the Miners ahead on 55 minutes before Daniel Naidole made it a point apiece with his equaliser for the away side midway through the second period.

Division One leaders Campion have extended their lead at the summit to twelve points with two games in hand over second-placed Rossington Main following their 5-0 home victory over Selby Town.

Aidan Kirby's hat-trick in a nine minute first half spell did most of the damage in between Marcus Day's opener and Nicky Boshell's goal twelve minutes from time.

Rossington, meanwhile, required an injury-time equaliser from Gregory Young to draw 2-2 at Swallownest who thought they had claimed the victory when James Bytheway netted their second in the 87th minute.

Third placed Harrogate Railway Athletic won 5-2 at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Albert Ibrahimi and Luke Stewart with two each for the Rail.

Goals from William Wraith, Sam Hooper and Clark Greaves gave Staveley Miners Welfare a 3-0 home victory over Nostell Miners Welfare that sees the Trojans climb to fourth above Horbury Town who were beaten 2-0 at home by Brigg Town.

Stephen McCarron netted once in each half for the Zebras who stay eight and are seven points away from the play-off zone.

It was an important day in the battle to beat the drop with the four bottom sides facing one of their rivals.

Parkgate move out of the relegation zone, leapfrogging Shirebrook Town by beating them 2-1 at Langwith Road after Bradley Morton's late winner for the Steelmen.

Shirebrook drop below the dotted line, a point ahead of the two sides below them, Athersley Recreation and Glasshoughton Welfare who squared up against each other.

Glasshoughton picked up three massive points as they won 2-0 at home to the Rec, both goals coming from Fredy Bernard, to give them a boost in their attempts to stay in the division.

In mid-table, Ollerton Town jump above their hosts Armthorpe Welfare into tenth after a 2-1 victory, Lewis Bingham and Jake Squires with their goals.

And, seventh placed Retford FC drew 1-1 with ninth placed Beverley Town, Kyle Simpson with an 80th minute leveller for the hosts after Oliver Baldwin broke the deadlock on the hour mark.
