The continuing freezing weather across the Toolstation NCEL region meant that only three matches - one League Cup tie and two Premier Division games - took place over the past week.

The 3G surfaces at Handsworth and Hemsworth Miners Welfare meant that their fixtures could go ahead whilst the rest of the league was left twiddling its thumbs, restlessly waiting for warmer temperatures.

Handsworth hosted two games and had mixed fortunes, starting with Wednesday night's League Cup Third Round victory over visitors Ollerton Town.

James Eyles struck once in each half in a 2-0 win that sends the Ambers through to the Quarter-Finals at the expense of their Division One opponents.

But, Saturday saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat to Maltby Main with the away side taking the points courtesy of an injury-time winner from Callum Walton.

Earlier, Leon Howarth had given the hosts a 39th minute lead only for the Miners to hit back almost immediately through Sam Ackroyd to restore parity just before half-time.

Main swap places with Handsworth in the table, so they are eleventh and twelfth, respectively.

Hemsworth, meanwhile, are up to third, one point behind second-placed Winterton Rangers in the chase for promotion, following a 3-0 home win over Knaresborough Town who stay tenth.

Jock Curran gave them an early lead before Jakub Hebda doubled their advantage on 42 minutes and Andrew Horbury wrapped up the victory with their third towards the end of the game.
