The defending champions of the Toolstation NCEL League Cup were knocked out at the Third Round stage on Tuesday night as Barton Town were beaten 5-1 at Garforth Town.And, in a twist of fate, it was revenge for Garforth who were beaten by the Swans in the Final last season as, this time round, they progressed to the Quarter-Finals with a comfortable victory.
Samuel Cable had put Barton ahead early on but a Daniel Coupland double, added to by a James Burgess strike, saw the Miners lead 3-1 by the interval.
Sam Barker made it four soon after the break and Burgess completed the scoring with his second on 52 minutes.
In the other two ties played in midweek, Cameron Simpson, James Young, Leon Hurles-Brook and Nathan Keightley netted for
Penistone Church in a 4-2 home win over
Maltby Main.
Sam Ackroyd converted a penalty for the away side with Frederick Tracey also getting on the scoresheet.
And, Division One leaders
Campion were knocked out with a 3-1 loss at
Winterton Rangers.
Paul Grimes, Luke Anderson and Josh Walker gave their Premier Division hosts an unassailable lead by the break before a Marcus Day spot-kick was a consolation for the visitors in the 79th minute.
In the Premier Division,
Silsden AFC more up to fifth after a 3-2 win at
Hallam with a Ellis Hudson double, followed by one from Alexander Laird, as they prevailed at the Countrymen whose goals came courtesy of an Kieren Watson opener and a late penalty from Scott Ruthven.
Knaresborough Town trailed 2-0 at home to
Eccleshill United by the 85th minute, thanks to first-half goals from Joao Silva and Louis Fialdini, but performed a remarkable turnaround to win the game and climb above their visitors to eleventh.
Ewan Gregson began the fightback before Harry McCalmont and Stephen Bromley both scored in injury-time to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory.
Wakefield AFC have jumped into the top five of Division One after a Lewis Stephens double helped them to a 3-2 home victory over
Parkgate.
Ross Duggan scored both of the Steelmen's goals whilst Billy Mole converted a penalty for the hosts.
And, both sides led in the 2-2 draw between
Athersley Recreation and
Retford FC with Jack Johnson ultimately claiming a point for the visiting Choughs in the 82nd minute.
Retford stay seventh whilst the Rec remain eighteenth, one place above Parkgate in the relegation zone.
In the midweek County Cup action,
Dronfield Town were narrowly beaten 1-0 at Gresley Rovers in the Third Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup whilst
Emley AFC prevailed 3-1 at home to North Gawber Colliery in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.
Harrison Rowley's first-half equaliser was added to in the last few minutes of the game by James Walshaw and a spot-kick from Joe Jagger to send the Pewits through.
Thackley raced into a 2-0 lead, Thomas Greaves with both goals in the opening ten minutes, as the NCEL Premier Division side hosted Division One
Horbury Town in the Second Round of the West Riding County Cup.
But, Samuel Kyeremeh quickly pulled one back and the visitors pulled off a 3-2 upset with two goals in quick succession around the hour mark from Samuel Awty and Daniel Wassell.
Albion Sports's trip to FC Halifax Town, meanwhile, was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
