Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #34

1st December, 2022

Thackley and Emley AFC won on their travels to progress to the Quarter-Finals of this season's Toolstation NCEL League Cup in midweek.

Thackley went behind at Premier Division rivals Hallam as Kieren Watson opened the scoring on sixteen minutes but the scores were level by the break as Aiden Chippendale converted a penalty.

Kieran Haigh gave the visiting Dennyboys the lead and Chippendale's second doubled their advantage before Brett Agnew pulled one back for Hallam.

That made it a thrilling end to the game with Thackley eventually going through, courtesy of a 3-2 victory.

Emley, meanwhile, travelled to one of the four Division One sides left in the competition, Staveley Miners Welfare, and were tested all the way in a closely-fought tie that they ultimately prevailed in as they won 2-1.

Joe Jagger's opener on the half-hour for the Pewits was cancelled out midway through the second period by the home side through Reece Clegg.

Staveley keeper Addison Bliss then guided the ball into his own net from a Declan Dawson strike on 75 minutes that ensured Emley the victory.

In the only Premier Division game to take place, Penistone Church are up to eighth in the table following a 4-0 win at home to Albion Sports who ended the game with ten men due to Mohamed Kaba's dismissal.

Leon Hurles-Brook netted a couple for the Penguins whilst there was one each for Cameron Simpson and Josh Brown.

And, Brigg Town caused an upset in the Quarter-Finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy as the NCEL Division One side knocked out their Premier Division hosts in a penalty shoot-out.

Harry Webster broke the deadlock for the home side before Joshua Batty's equaliser and Oliver Fisher's goal towards the start of the second period put Brigg ahead.

Luke Ayris restored parity once more on the hour mark and 2-2 is how it stayed until the final whistle with Brigg taking their place in the final four with a 3-0 win on spot kicks.
