Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #33

27th November, 2022

North Ferriby have reached the halfway stage of their Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season eleven points clear at the top of the table after their 3-1 win at second-placed Emley AFC on Saturday.

The season's largest crowd of 732 watched what was the biggest match of the campaign so far as the top two sides locked horns at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.

Captain Niall Tisley headed the visiting Villagers ahead on ten minutes but parity was quickly restored through Rikki Paylor.

Goals in the last quarter of the match from Oliver Donald and Danny Clarke gave Ferriby the win that further extends their advantage at the summit, helped also by losses for both the other two teams in the top four.

Winterton Rangers stay third after a 2-1 defeat at home to Eccleshill United, Jaime Ture with their consolation after an Adam Barthram own goal and Matthew Sykes had netted for the Eagles.

Fourth-placed Garforth Town were beaten by the same scoreline at Hemsworth Miners Welfare who climb to sixth with their victory that came courtesy of an injury-time winner by Ben Gelder after Nick Thompson had seemingly grabbed a point for the visiting Miners.

Hemsworth move to within goal difference of Silsden AFC who are fifth and whose home game with Bottesford Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

At the other end of the table, an equally important game as the one at Emley took place as basement side Yorkshire Amateur travelled to next-to-bottom Goole AFC in the fight to avoid relegation.

The home side took a 2-0 lead through Callum Brook and Chris Spinks before Alfie Wilkinson and Newton Sila-Conde scored either side of the interval to bring the score back level.

Callum Petch grabbed a 71st minute winner for the hosting Vikings who stay in the bottom two but only now by goal difference whilst the Ammers remain eight points away from safety.

Golcar United picked up a vital home win to keep themselves four points clear of the relegation zone as they won 3-2 at home to Thackley although it got nervy towards the end for them.

Kayle Price, Jake Barrett and Joseph Skarz had them three goals up by the hour mark before a Thomas Greaves penalty and Thackley's second from Kieran Suddards made it a nail-biting finale for the home support.

Elsewhere, Penistone Church climb to tenth after Leon Hurles-Brook netted the only goal in their away win at Handsworth whilst Hallam are eleventh following a 3-1 home victory over Knaresborough Town.

Oliver Fearon, Scott Ruthven and Christopher Salt got on the scoresheet for the Countrymen whilst Luke Jones found the net for the visitors.

And, Frickley Athletic defeated visitors Maltby Main 2-0 as goals from Alhassane Keita and Lloyd Smith secured the win that lifts them to fifteenth.

The top four in Division One all won, meaning that Campion maintain their eleven point advantage at the summit with a 6-1 triumph at sixth-placed Retford FC.

Marcus Day's hat-trick was added to by a Patrick Sykes double and an Aidan Kirby penalty whilst the home side's goal came from Haydn Goddard.

Horbury Town came from 2-1 down at the break to win 3-2 at home to Beverley Town to keep themselves in second spot, Samuel Kyeremeh's equaliser followed by Benjamin Agu's decider with fifteen minutes remaining.

There was a hat-trick for Luke Stewart as third-placed Harrogate Railway Athletic beat Glasshoughton Welfare 6-1 with an Oliver Norman brace and a Sean Hunter strike completing the victory.

Matthew Semley scored for Glasshoughton who drop to the bottom of the table, meaning Parkgate, who did not play on Saturday afternoon, move out of the basement for the first time since the middle of August.

Rossington Main tightened their grip on fourth spot as they won 2-0 at the side just below them Staveley Miners Welfare, Tyla Bell and Monosse Kianga with the goals that open up a six-point gap between the two teams.

Brigg Town missed out on a chance to jump into the top five as, despite opening the scoring through Luke Sellers, they went down 2-1 at Athersley Recreation, Ethan Nixon and Liam O'Brien on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Joe Pearson and Matthew Ord were scorers for Dronfield Town as they won 3-1 at Swallownest to move up into eighth.

Shirebrook Town and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Langwith Road with an own goal grabbing a point for the hosts in the 86th minute of a see-saw encounter.

A Ben Saynor own goal, added to by Samuel Geeves, ensured a 2-0 win for Ollerton Town at Selby Town whilst Jamie Austin was the matchwinner for Armthorpe Welfare as they beat visitors Nostell Miners Welfare 1-0.

Meanwhile, Wakefield AFC crashed out of the West Riding County Cup as, despite a Jaydan Sandhu double and one from Daniel Hernandez, they were beaten 8-3 at North West Counties League side Barnoldswick Town in their Second Round tie.
