Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #32

24th November, 2022

The first team through to the Quarter Finals of this season's Toolstation NCEL League Cup are Golcar United after their home win in the Third Round in midweek.

Goals towards the start of each half from Mark Everingham and Kayle Price saw them progress to the last eight with a 2-0 victory over Premier Division rivals Knaresborough Town.

It was one of three matches that took place on Tuesday with Hallam moving up to twelfth in the table on the same evening with a 4-1 defeat of visitors Goole AFC in the Premier Division.

Oliver Fearon and Aaron Fell had them two up by the 33rd minute before Oliver Russon quickly halved the deficit for the next-to-bottom Vikings.

But, the Countrymen secured the win with further goals in the second half through Scott Ruthven and James Gregory to increase the gap between themselves and their opponents to eleven points.

The night's other game was a Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Second Round tie with Handsworth travelling to Pitching In Northern Premier League side Stocksbridge Park Steels.

It was a tight game but the Ambers were knocked out of the competition with a goal in each half in a 2-0 defeat.

Wednesday's action, however, was severely hampered by wet weather with four of the scheduled seven matches involving NCEL sides postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Winterton Rangers' Quarter Final in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy went ahead but it was a frustrating evening as they went down 4-0 at home to Boston Town.

The other tie, Bottesford Town versus Brigg Town, was called off as was the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup clash between Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Nostell Miners Welfare whilst Thackley at home to Horbury Town was also a victim of the weather in the West Riding County Cup.

A quickfire double from Josh Brown and Daniel Howes, a Bradley Morton own goal just before half time, and Thomas Brennan's late strike earned Penistone Church a 4-0 home win over league rivals Parkgate in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup game that did go ahead.

And, Campion produced another excellent performance as they won 4-0 at North West Counties League hosts Ilkley Town in the Second Round of the West Riding County Cup.

Daniel Keane and Aidan Day netted before half-time with Joseph Colley adding two more in the second period to make it an ultimately comfortable victory for the runaway Division One leaders.

Albion Sports' home game with Barton Town, meanwhile, in the Premier Division was the fourth game of the evening to be postponed.
