Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #23

23rd October, 2022

Brigg Town and Emley AFC won the two all-Toolstation NCEL ties as they joined four other of our sides in making it through to the Second Round of the Isuzu FA Vase on Saturday.

Scott Phillips' free-kick was turned into his own net by an Harrogate Railway Athletic defender and Stephen McCarron doubled Brigg's lead just before half-time as the Zebras defeated their visitors 2-0.

Emley's excellent start to the season continued as they won 3-1 at Frickley Athletic in their First Round tie, James Walshaw with a couple for the Pewits.

Donae Lawrence made certain in stoppage time with the third whilst Alhassane Keita grabbed an equaliser for the hosts.

A Brett Agnew hat-trick helped Hallam to a 5-2 win at Newcastle University with Liam Royles and Adam Blakley also getting on the scoresheet for the Countrymen.

Thackley are also in Monday's draw after they triumphed 3-2 on their travels to Brandon United, Thomas Greaves netting an early opener with Kieran Haigh and Aiden Chippendale adding to their tally in the second half.

Devonte Newman-Morton and Luke Sidaway scored for Eccleshill United as they won 2-1 at Seaham Red Star and Jack Hollis-Smith's 43rd minute penalty was the only goal as Ollerton Town went through at the expense of hosts Westfields.

There was disappointment for Selby Town as they were edged out in a 5-4 thriller at Barnoldswick Town with Liam Flanagan, Ryan Gothard, Connor Qualter and Matthew Turner the Robins' scorers.

Benjamin Hinchliffe got both of Barton Town's goals in a 4-2 loss at home to Cheadle Town and Aidan Day netted for Campion in their 3-1 defeat to visitors Bacup Borough.

Reece High, Daniel Naidole and Wilfred Peel-Evans scored for Penistone Church, Golcar United and Winterton Rangers who went down 2-1 at FC St Helens, West Didsbury & Chorlton and at home to Prestwich Heys, respectively.

Shirebrook Town also bowed out of the competition, losing 3-2 at Stone Old Alleynians, Fabian Johnson and Joshua Parfitt on the scoresheet for the Derbyshire side, whilst Armthorpe Welfare were beaten 3-0 at Horden Community Welfare.

In the Premier Division, North Ferriby were denied a chance to move eight points clear at the top of the table after visitors Maltby Main came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with ten men for most of the game.

Joshua Whiteley scored twice in the first half for the hosting Villagers, the first a penalty after Main's James Stafford had been red carded for handball.

But, great resilience from the away side saw Frederick Tracey level with a second-half brace of his own and Cameron Hough grabbed the 78th minute winner.

Garforth Town are up to fourth after strolling to a 7-0 win at next-to-bottom Goole AFC, Liam Wood's hat-trick added to by one each from James Burgess, Charlie Marshall, Sam Barker and Duke Witter.

The Miners go above Handsworth who were beaten 3-0 at Silsden AFC who climb to sixth after first half goals from Lamin Janneh Gitteh and Luke Brooksbank followed by a 77th minute penalty from Talent Ndlovu.

Jason Davis' spot kick just before the interval secured Hemsworth Miners Welfare a 1-0 victory at Albion Sports and his side moves up to seventh.

An own goal put Knaresborough Town ahead at Bottesford Town with Cameron Bedford and Joseph Navier making sure of a 3-0 win that lifts them to fifteenth, three places above the visitors who remain just outside the bottom two.

Second-placed Horbury Town have moved to three points behind leaders Campion in Division One after their 4-1 home victory over Swallownest.

James Cusworth scored twice with Abdou Bojang and Kieran Ceesay also getting on the scoresheet whilst William Monteiro netted for the away side.

Rossington Main missed out on a chance to move into the top three as they went down 3-1 at Nostell Miners Welfare, Tyla Bell with their goal whilst Liam Ormsby, Nathan Hawkhead and Charlie Parnell secured the three points for Welfare who go up to twelfth.

Two goals in a minute towards the start of the second half from Shay Evans-Booth gave fifth-placed Retford FC a 2-0 win at basement side Parkgate.

And, there were home victories for Beverley Town, Staveley Miners Welfare and Wakefield AFC.

Staveley posted the biggest scoreline as they beat Athersley Recereation 5-0, Alexander Duhameau scoring twice with Reece Clegg, Samuel Kay and Max Rhodes also adding to the Trojans' victory.

Substitute Oliver Baldwin helped Beverley to a 4-1 defeat of visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic with two goals whilst Wakefield were 4-2 winners over Dronfield Town thanks to Billy Mole, Daniel Hernandez, Jaydan Sandhu and Jake Morrison.
