Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #18

6th October, 2022

Three Division One sides knocked out Premier Division opposition in Toolstation NCEL League Cup Second Round ties in midweek.

Staveley Miners Welfare caused the biggest upset as they won 3-0 at home to the Premier Division leaders North Ferriby.

Jack Allerton and Samuel Kay struck in quick succession midway through the first period before Clark Greaves netted their third early in the second half for a deserved victory.

Campion, who top Division One, beat visitors and Premier Division basement side Yorkshire Amateur 1-0 with Michael O'Brien scoring the decider in the 52nd minute.

And, Alfie Dodsworth scored twice as Ollerton Town overcame visitors Silsden AFC 3-2 with Nathan Murr grabbing an 89th minute winner.

That came just seconds after Talent Ndlovu had seemingly secured a penalty shoot-out with an equaliser for the away side.

Shirebrook Town are also through to the Third Round as they won 2-0 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare, Ashley Grayson and Nathan Jessop with the goals in an all-Division One tie.

There was a hat-trick for Thomas Waudby as Barton Town prevailed 6-2 over visitors Armthorpe Welfare whilst goals in the last ten minutes from Kieran Watson saw Hallam progress 2-0 at Beverley Town.

There were 2-0 home wins for Knaresborough Town and Thackley against Retford FC and Swallownest, respectively.

Ewan Gregson and Danny Edwards scored in the first half for Knaresborough and there were also goals for Thackley's Ryan Basi and Amir Berchil.

A Paul Grimes double helped Winterton Rangers to a 3-1 defeat of hosts Frickley Athletic and Garforth Town were 5-1 home winners over Brigg Town with James Burgess netting a brace for the Miners.

And, Aaron Sennett-Neilson was the matchwinner for Maltby Main as they progressed 2-1 at home to Bottesford Town.

In the Premier Division, Emley AFC have moved up to second after a 5-2 win at fifth-placed Penistone Church with Joe Jagger and Iyrwah Gooden scoring two each whilst Nathan Keightley got both of Church's goals.

And, it was a point apiece for Albion Sports and visitors Handsworth, Robbie Fox with an equaliser for the hosting Lions after Samuel Smith put the Ambers in front after 32 minutes.

Meanwhile, Selby Town were knocked out of the West Riding County Cup at home to Barnoldswick Town, Flynn McNaughton with the Robins' goals in a 4-2 defeat in the First Round tie.
