Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #11

8th September, 2022

The 2022/23 Toolstation NCEL League Cup is underway after all eight First Round matches - comprising of sixteen Division One teams - took place in midweek.

The biggest victors were Campion who defeated visitors Wakefield AFC 4-0, Patrick Sykes netting twice after Andrew McCreadie's opener whilst Nicky Boshell's late penalty concluded the scoring.

An own goal was added to by Craig Muirhead and Wayne Griffin as Beverley Town were 3-0 winners at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Ollerton Town also won on their travels, 2-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare.

Alfie Dodsworth had put Ollerton ahead towards the end of the first half before Owen Thomas levelled midway through the second period but Lewis Bingham got what proved to be the winner with five minutes remaining.

Nostell Miners Welfare were 2-0 home winners over Harrogate Railway Athletic, Nathan Hawkhead and Harvey Booth with their goals whilst Brigg Town struck twice in the final moments of their tie to sneak through.

An own goal, added to by Jordan Whittle, had their visitors Rossington Main two goals up but Scott Phillips' penalty halved the deficit and Kevan Kahoussi equalised in the 88th minute before Finley O'Sullivan pounced in stoppage time to grab a dramatic 3-2 victory.

The remaining three ties all required a penalty shoot-out as they each finished 1-1 after ninety minutes.

Kai Hancock broke the deadlock for Athersley Recreation at home to Horbury Town with Benjamin Agu's equaliser coming early in the second half and the Rec won 5-4 on spot kicks.

Daniel Wood quickly cancelled out Shirebrook Town's 37th minute opener from Fabian Johnson at Dronfield Town and it was Shirebrook who progressed 4-1 in the shoot-out.

And, Parkgate were triumphant by the same scoreline on penalties at Selby Town after Flynn McNaughton had grabbed a late equaliser for the hosting Robins after Liam O'Brien put the Steelmen ahead in the 50th minute.

Meanwhile, there were three games in the Premier Division with Winterton Rangers taking over at the summit following their 2-0 win at Bottesford Town.

Josh Walker netted in the sixth minute with Samuel Aynsley adding their second midway through the opening period.

Iyrwah Gooden grabbed both of Emley AFC's goals as they won 2-0 at home to Hallam and the Pewits climb to fifth in the table, a position above Silsden AFC who were also victorious.

Finn Donovan and Josimar Bradshaw's goals sandwiched a Louis Fialdini equaliser for Yorkshire Amateur with all the goals in the 2-1 win coming in the opening half-hour.
