Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #7

25th August, 2022

There was disappointment for Albion Sports and Handsworth as they were both beaten in their Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round replays in midweek.

Sports finished 0-0 at home to Avro, to add to the goalless draw at their North West Counties League opponents at the weekend.

And, it was the visitors who prevailed on spot-kicks, winning 4-2 in a shoot-out to progress to the First Round of Qualifying at the start of next month.

Handsworth, meanwhile, were beaten 5-1 by Pitching In Northern Premier League side Cleethorpes Town at the Express Worktops Stadium @ Olivers Mount.

James Eyles scored the Ambers' only goal of the game that saw them play most of the tie with ten men after a red card for Rion Arbouin around the half-hour mark.

It was honours even, meanwhile, in both Toolstation NCEL Premier Division matches with Knaresborough Town claiming a point in a 1-1 draw at Goole AFC.

Javan Benjamin grabbed a late equaliser for the visitors after Callum Petch had given the hosting Vikings a 63rd minute lead.

And, four goals were shared by hosts Silsden AFC and Hemsworth Miners Welfare with Josimar Bradshaw netting in stoppage time to snatch a point for the home side.

Earlier, Arley Barnes' own goal had put the visitors ahead before he scored, in the right net this time, towards the start of the second period and then Charlie Barks restored Hemsworth's advantage midway through the half.

Horbury Town made it six wins out of six to continue their impeccable start to their inaugural Division One season, Abdul Asamoah's double, along with one each for Gibril Bojang, James Smith and Sair Akbar, helping them to a 5-2 victory at Swallownest.

They are five points clear of Wakefield AFC, Rossington Main and Dronfield Town who all won their midweek matches.

Lucas Stubbs' injury-time winner secured a 2-1 victory for Wakefield after they came from behind to beat visitors Brigg Town.

There was a hat-trick for Jordan Buckham and Adam Baskerville scored twice as Rossington won 5-1 at basement side Parkgate whilst Callum Mawbey and Matthew Ord secured a 2-0 home victory for Dronfield over Athersley Recreation.

Retford FC drop to fifth following their 2-1 loss at Staveley Miners Welfare, Jack Dolman with a last-gasp winner for the hosting Trojans.

Kiyani Clayton netted all of Glasshoughton Welfare's goals as they beat visitors Ollerton Town 3-0 and there were two goals each for Nathan Hawkhead and Liam Owen in Nostell Miners Welfare's 5-1 home victory over Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

And, goals in the last three minutes from Ellis Stephenson and Connor Qualter salvaged a 2-2 draw for Selby Town after a Jamie Austin brace for hosts Armthorpe Welfare had seemingly given his side all three points.

Meanwhile, Winterton Rangers were 6-0 home winners over Appleby Frodingham in the Gerry Spencer Memorial Match, a Paul Grimes double added to by Wilfred Peel-Evans, Josh Walker, Jack Holden and Ryan Douglas.
