The 2022/23 Toolstation NCEL season began on Friday evening as Garforth Town played out a 2-2 draw with visitors Hemsworth Miners Welfare in the Premier Division.Charlie Marshall twice put the hosting Miners ahead but they were pegged back first by Jason Davis and then Andrew Horbury to ensure it was honours even in the campaign curtain-raiser.
The remaining opening round of games were played on Saturday with
Frickley Athletic winning their first match in the NCEL, Lee Bennett settling the encounter in stoppage time to take the points in a 1-0 victory at
Maltby Main.
Golcar United began life in the league with a 1-1 draw at
Thackley, Daniel Naidole quickly levelling for the visitors after Aiden Chippendale had put the Dennyboys ahead in the 21st minute.
Joshua Dacre's goal just after the half-hour mark condemned
Yorkshire Amateur to defeat in their return to the NCEL as
Goole AFC took the points in a single-goal victory at the Southerns Stadium.
Promoted sides
Hallam and
North Ferriby began their campaigns with wins, James Gregory, Richard Patterson and Danny Deakin with the goals for the Countrymen as they beat
Knaresborough Town 3-1 after the hosts had taken the lead through Harry Clark.
Daniel East scored both of Ferriby's goals, the first from the penalty spot, as they defeated visitors
Emley AFC at the Dransfield Stadium in front of the division's biggest crowd of 358.
Devonte Newman-Morton's hat-trick helped
Eccleshill United to a 5-3 home victory over
Winterton Rangers whilst there were away wins for
Silsden AFC and
Handsworth.
Hashlee Cranidge put into his own net for the only goal of the game for Silsden at
Bottesford Town whilst Leon Howarth and Alfie Smith secured a 2-0 win at
Penistone Church for Handsworth.
And, it was goalless at the Easy Buy Stadium as
Barton Town were held to a draw by visitors
Albion Sports.
In Division One, the three sides promoted from the Feeder Leagues had excellent starts with
Beverley Town,
Horbury Town and
Wakefield AFC kicking their campaigns off with victories.
Horbury were the day's biggest winners as they defeated visitors
Ollerton Town 5-0, Samuel Awty with a couple whilst there was one each for Gibril Bojang, Kieran Ceesay and Benjamin Agu.
Nathan Ofori netted for Beverley as they beat hosts
Athersley Recreation 1-0 whilst, in front of the weekend's largest attendance of 361,
Wakefield AFC won 3-1 at home to
Glasshoughton Welfare.
Kiyani Clayton gave Welfare an early lead but the hosts turned the game around in the final quarter-of-an-hour with a Jake Morrison brace sandwiching a Raymond Sibanda strike.
There was a hat-trick for Matthew Parkin in
Retford FC's 5-2 home victory over
Nostell Miners Welfare whilst
Staveley Miners Welfare went one better against visitors
Parkgate, Marley Grant with two of their goals in a 6-2 win.
Ross Hannah struck twice for
Rossington Main as they rattled off a 4-0 success at
Selby Town whilst Daniel Wood, Callum Mawbey and Sam Terry secured a 3-1 victory for
Dronfield Town at
Armthorpe Welfare.
Oliver Norman and William Monteiro scored the only goal of the game as
Harrogate Railway Athletic took the points at
Shirebrook Town and
Swallownest prevailed at home to
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, respectively.
And, it was a point apiece as Fraser Paprill's late equaliser rescued a 1-1 draw for hosts
Brigg Town after
Campion had taken a first half lead, courtesy of an own goal.
