Baris NCEL Match Review #66
12th April, 2013
Albion Sports have jumped to the top of the Baris NCEL Division One table as the race for that title intensified in midweek.
Daniel Facey and Liam Ormsby struck for the Lions in each half as they won 2-0 at home to promotion rivals Knaresborough Town on Wednesday night.
They go above Athersley Recreation by a point and with a game in hand after they drew 1-1 at Grimsby Borough on Tuesday night, Tom Harban's own goal giving the hosts a 20th minute lead before Ryan White levelled the scores towards the end of the opening period.
Cleethorpes Town remain in the promotion hunt after a 5-0 win on Wednesday at home to next-to-bottom Yorkshire Amateur consolidated third position for them.
All their goals came in the last 25 minutes with Craig Mitchell, Richard Belding, Marc Cooper, Steven Cooper and Nathan Emson all finding the net.
Shirebrook Town, like Knaresborough, also saw their promotion hopes all-but disappear as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Pontefract Collieries on Tuesday, a Gareth Briggs own goal and a Mark Simpson strike giving the visitors the points before a late home consolation from Carlos Forbes.
Elsewhere, in Division One, Monday saw one game as Teversal were 4-0 winners at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic with Kristian Witcombe and Jake Vernon scoring in the first half, David Cockerill and Danny Williams netting after the break.
Tuesday's other matches in the division saw bottom side Askern Villa lose 2-0 at Selby Town who, until a recent run of excellent form, had been in the basement for most of the season, Tom Owen and Daniel Gray converting for the Robins whilst Clipstone Welfare went down 2-0 at Hallam.
On Wednesday, Brandon Roane scored a hat-trick in Eccleshill United's 6-1 home win over Rossington Main, Appleby Frodingham drew 1-1 with visitors AFC Emley and Louth Town were single goal winners at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
And, on Thursday, Danny Boulton scored four goals - including three in three first-half minutes - as Bottesford Town won 5-0 at Hallam.
There was no respite for the Premier Division's bottom two sides as Arnold Town and Hall Road Rangers were both beaten in midweek.
Arnold went down 3-1 at Pickering Town on Tuesday night with Liam Salt, Liam Shepherd and Joe Danby netting for the Pikes before an injury-time goal from Tommy Lee-Collier for the away side.
The other top flight game on that night saw Thackley share the spoils with visitors Parkgate after a last-gasp equaliser from Martyn Lee snatched a point for the Steelmen.
Hall Road Rangers were beaten 3-0 at home by Nostell Miners Welfare on Wednesday night with Dave Nicholas claiming a brace.
Winterton Rangers were 2-1 winners over visitors Maltby Main, Daniel Hagan getting both of their goals, and Barton Town Old Boys won 2-0 at home to Heanor Town.
A young Scarborough Athletic side made it through to the Fourth Round of the League Cup as Dom Richardson's second-half strike saw them progress, 1-0, at Long Eaton United on Tuesday night.
And, Staveley Miners Welfare were beaten 4-2 at Evo-Stik League side Sheffield in the Semi-Finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup on Thursday.
