Baris NCEL Match Review #58
14th March, 2013
Five matches survived the early March cold snap during midweek, including more twists and turns in the race for promotion from Baris NCEL Division One.
Second-placed Shirebrook Town missed out on a chance to close the gap on the leaders as they were beaten 2-0 by hosts Selby Town who remain bottom of the table but are now just two points adrift following their recent excellent upturn in form.
Jack Wooley and Daniel Gray got both the Robins' goals in the first period as they made it four wins out of their last six games.
Albion Sports, meanwhile, stay fourth but are now nine points behind Athersley Recreation with three games in hand after their 4-0 home victory over Yorkshire Amateur who must now surely be peering nervously over their shoulder at the relegation zone.
Daniel Facey and Karl Hall gave the hosts a two goal cushion after just 24 minutes before an Alex Cusack brace in the second period made sure of the win.
In the Premier Division, Winterton Rangers were unable to jump out of the bottom three as they drew 0-0 at Glasshoughton Welfare.
A Jack Cross hat-trick helped move Retford United to within three points of fifth-placed Tadcaster Albion as they beat the Brewers 4-1 at Cannon Park.
And, Athersley bowed out of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup at the Quarter Finals stage, despite going ahead through a Jason Bentley strike at Frickley Athletic, as they were beaten 3-1.
