Baris NCEL 2012/13 Match Review #32
21st November, 2012
Thackley became the fourth Baris NCEL side through to the Third Round of the FA Carlsberg Vase as they won in midweek.
Due to an unplayable surface at Bootle, the match, which had also been called off at the weekend, was switched to Dennyfield and Thackley made their home advantage count.
Matthew Mathers had them ahead on 24 minutes before the visitors quickly equalised but a Brice Tiani penalty and a Nicky Matthews strike ensured a 3-1 victory by just before the hour mark.
Shirebrook Town, however, bowed out of the competition as they were beaten 3-0 at Walsall Wood in their replay.
Long Eaton United continue to wait for their trip to Southam United as their game was called off again due to a waterlogged pitch.
Bridlington Town's lead at the top of the Premier Division has grown to three points as they won 3-2 at home to Armthorpe Welfare.
Josh Greening and Billy Logan had them two-up by the 37th minute before Leo Fortune-West halved his side's deficit in first-half stoppage time.
Craig Hogg restored the Seasiders' two goal advantage early in the second period but Richard Smith made them sweat as he brought Armthorpe back into it with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
Brighouse Town have climbed into second after their 3-1 home victory over Barton Town Old Boys, Tom Matthews, Ernest Boafa and Craig Thompson with their goals in the first half whilst the visitors got on the scoresheet through Ashley Dexter after the interval.
Tadcaster Albion missed out on a chance to jump into the top three as they were beaten 2-0 by Pickering Town at 2inspire Park, Joe Danby and Joel Ramm with the Pikes' goals in the last ten minutes.
And, a brace each from Craig Fletcher and Sam Smith helped Parkgate to a 6-1 victory at home to Nostell Miners Welfare to move up one place into tenth.
There were three County Cup matches played on Tuesday, two of which were all-NCEL ties.
Bottesford Town won 4-2 on penalties over visitors Appleby Frodingham after the game had finished in extra-time at 2-2 in the Quarter-Finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy.
A last gasp Robert Paling penalty saw Clipstone Welfare through in their Notts Senior Cup Second Round tie at home to Teversal, 2-1.
And, despite a brave effort from Knaresborough Town, they went down by the same scoreline at Evo-Stik League side Ossett Town in extra-time.
In the one League Cup match that took place, Duncan Bray struck in extra-time to send Pontefract Collieries through to the Third Round, 2-1 at Athersley Recreation.
Meanwhile, Wednesday's two fixtures, the County Cup clash between Redcar Athletic and Scarborough Athletic and the League Cup encounter between Staveley Miners Welfare and Hall Road Rangers, were both called off due to waterlogged pitches.
