Baris NCEL 2012/13 Match Review #25
28th October, 2012
Worksop Parramore missed a chance to close the gap on Baris NCEL Premier Division leaders Bridlington Town to goal difference whilst Division One table-toppers Athersley Recreation fell to a surprise defeat at Askern Villa in another busy Saturday in the league.
With Bridlington and third-placed Scarborough Athletic not in action, it gave Parramore a good opportunity to further push their title credentials but they went down to a 2-0 defeat at home to Pickering Town.
Liam Salt scored in injury time in both halves in a game that was halted for thirty minutes in the second period as Parramore's Lee Whittington was taken to hospital with a suspected broken cheekbone.
Brighouse Town have climbed into the top four after Tom Matthews' hat-trick picked up their fifth straight victory in a 3-2 win at Hall Road Rangers.
They go above Barton Town Old Boys who were beaten 4-1 by visitors Tadcaster Albion.
Ryan Qualter, Steven Jeff and Chris Kamara had the Brewers 3-0 up by the interval and Ryan Williams added a fourth before Joe Cooper got an injury-time consolation for the hosts.
Tadcaster climb into sixth as a result of that win above Long Eaton United who lost 3-2 at home to Heanor Town with Nathan Benger getting two of the Lions' goals.
Thackley, Staveley Miners Welfare and Retford United complete the top ten after they all won.
Liam Hudson's tenth-minute strike was enough for Thackley at home to Winterton Rangers whilst Staveley were involved in a nine-goal thriller with Armthorpe Welfare at Inkersall Road.
The home side thought the game was over when they were 3-0 up after fifty minutes, thanks to strikes from Ben Leonard, Joe Thornton and Nathan Forbes-Swindells with his twentieth goal of the season but his first for the club following his midweek move from Parkgate.
But, Callum Smith, Joe Lumsden and Paul Ashton had brought Armthorpe back level by midway through the second period.
Chris Youldon restored Staveley's lead but it was once again wiped out, this time by Reece Richard, before Youldon popped up as the game went into stoppage time to snatch a 5-4 victory.
Things were a lot simpler for Retford as they won 2-0 at Maltby Main, Bobby Johnson and Adam Scott scoring towards the end of each half.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway stay bottom of the table despite a 2-1 home victory over Arnold Town because the side above them Nostell Miners Welfare also won on their own patch, 2-0 against Glasshoughton Welfare.
The only draw in the top flight came at Liversedge who finished 1-1 in their game against visitors Parkgate.
Askern Villa are up to fifteenth in Division One as they won 3-1 at home to leaders Athersley Recreation.
Mel Cotton had them ahead on 23 minutes before Jason Bentley restored parity early in the second period only for Mike Braithwaite to regain the advantage soon after for Villa and Tony Hattersley made sure of the points as the game came to an end.
Pontefract Collieries move up into second, three points from the top, after their third straight win, Brenton Leister's penalty and Duncan Bray's strike securing a 2-1 home victory over Teversal.
Louth Town drop to third as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Eccleshill United.
Two goals from Lee Stephenson ensured that Cleethorpes Town stayed fourth as they won 2-1 at home to bottom side Appleby Frodingham who have now lost four on the bounce.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic fall out of the top five after their 2-2 draw at Yorkshire Amateur with AFC Emley and Shirebrook Town leapfrogging over them.
Emley won 3-2 at Bottesford Town, the winner coming in injury-time from Paul Sykes whilst Shirebrook extended their unbeaten run to eight games, beating visitors Dinnington Town 2-1 with goals from Chris Timons and Carlos Forbes.
There were 1-1 draws for Knaresborough Town at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare and for Clipstone Welfare at Selby Town.
And, Hallam pulled away a little from the bottom two with a 2-1 home victory over Rossington Main, coming from behind to win with goals from Ben Kistell and Adam Carter.
