Baris NCEL 2012/13 Match Review #16

27th September, 2012

The top five in the Baris NCEL Premier Division has stayed the same after eight matches were complete in midweek but a gap has begun to appear between the leading three sides and the rest.

Worksop Parramore remain a point ahead of Scarborough Athletic and Bridlington Town as all three sides won their latest matches.

A brace from the league's top scorer Lee Whittington helped Parramore to a 3-2 home victory over last year's champions, Retford United.

Bridlington went above Scarborough on Tuesday night with their seventh straight win, an enthralling 4-3 defeat of Heanor Town.

Ian Clarke put the visitors ahead on eleven minutes but Nathan Cook and Chris Batchelor had the Seasiders were in front by the interval.

Kyle Bryant levelled matters for Heanor early in the second period before Carl Stewart and Scott Phillips made sure of the points, even though the away side threatened a comeback when Ant Lynam found the net with five minutes remaining.

Scarborough, however, went back up into second on Wednesday evening as a goal at either end of the first half from Patrick Miller and James Bennett helped them to a 2-1 win at Staveley Miners Welfare, Gavin Allott with a late consolation for the hosts.

Fourth placed Brighouse Town are four points behind third spot after their home game with Long Eaton United was one of four matches called off due to the heavy rain.

The others that fell were Tadcaster Albion versus Pickering Town and, in Division One, Albion Sports versus Pontefract Collieries and Eccleshill United versus Appleby Frodingham.

Parkgate lost ground on the top three as they were beaten 2-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare to remain in fifth spot, Liam Radford and Andrew Fieldhouse with the home side's goals, Nathan Forbes-Swindell replying for the visitors.

Barton Town Old Boys moved up into sixth as they came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Armthorpe Welfare, Joe Cooper with the decider in the 83rd minute.

Thackley are just beneath them in seventh after their 6-0 victory at bottom side Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Jordan Missin opening and concluding the scoring whilst James Firth, Nicky Matthews, Josh Eastwood and Mark Bett netted in between.

Danny Toronczak's 53rd minute strike was enough for Liversedge as they won 1-0 at Arnold Town whilst an Adam Houghton brace ensured a 2-1 home victory for Maltby Main over Hall Road Rangers.

The match between Winterton Rangers and Nostell Miners Welfare was abandoned after 73 minutes due to floodlight failure at West Street, with the hosts leading 2-1.

Athersley Recreation returned to the top of Division One after their 2-1 win at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare, leaping over leaders Louth Town who went down 3-1 at Askern Villa.

Jason Bentley and Jack Briscoe got the goals for the Recs whilst a Gary Mundy brace helped to condemn Louth to their third defeat of the season.

Clipstone Welfare also climbed above Louth into second as Jimmy Adcock, Warren Hatfield and Robert Paling found the net in their 3-1 win over Hallam at the Lido Ground.

An early Marc Cooper strike and a 70th minute David Unsworth own goal secured Cleethorpes Town a 2-0 win at Grimsby Borough to move up into fourth.

The match, the first between the two sides who play at the Bradley Football Development Centre, drew the league's highest attendance of the season so far, 463.

Goals in the final four minutes at Carnarvon Street saw Teversal come out 4-2 winners over visitors Yorkshire Amateur, a victory that sees them jump up to sixth.

A Daniel Williams brace continued Shirebrook Town's resurgence under new boss Mark Shaw as they won 2-1 at AFC Emley and Liam Cartledge also struck twice as Dinnington Town won by the same scoreline at Rossington Main.

Selby Town moved out of the bottom two with a 2-1 victory at Bottesford Town, Nick Brown and Ryan Smith with their first-half goals and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic came away from Knaresborough Town with all three points after beating their hosts, 4-2.
