Baris NCEL 2012/13 Match Review #13
16th September, 2012
Eleven Baris NCEL sides booked their place in the First Round Proper of the FA Carlsberg Vase whilst Scarborough Athletic equalled the Premier Division's biggest away win record on another busy Saturday afternoon of football.
Heanor Town and AFC Emley triumphed in the two all-NCEL Vase ties with Levi Maturine's strike towards the end of extra time the only goal in Emley's win at Maltby Main.
Heanor, meanwhile, were 4-2 victors at home to Arnold Town with two Nathan Benger goals helping them set up a trip to Shirebrook Town in the next round.
Shirebrook progressed courtesy of a 3-0 win at Ellistown, Christian Harrison giving them a first-half lead before a Jake Vernon penalty and a Chris Jackson strike in the last fifteen minutes saw them through safely.
Parkgate, Bottesford Town and Long Eaton United were also victorious on their travels.
Nathan Forbes-Swindells and Jaco Walters Lang scored in the second-half to earn Parkgate a 2-0 win at Ashton Town whilst Bottesford came from behind to beat hosts Colne 2-1, Danny Boulton's 26th-minute leveller added to early in the second half by Mark La Rocca.
Matt Savage and Shaun Rickford struck in each period for Long Eaton in their 2-0 victory at Radford.
There was a brace for Paul Ashton as Armthorpe Welfare went through, 3-1 at home to Squires Gate, and Pickering Town progressed by the same scoreline with a penalty from Liam Salt and a goal from Tom Fenwick in the last few moments to see off Team Northumbria.
There were 2-1 victories for Hall Road Rangers over Chadderton and Nostell Miners Welfare at home to AFC Blackpool whilst goals from Nicky Matthews and Brice Tiani earned Thackley a 2-0 win over visitors Celtic Nation.
And, it was the end of the road against non-NCEL opposition for Albion Sports, Askern Villa, Glasshoughton Welfare, Liversedge, Louth Town, Pontefract Collieries, Selby Town, Teversal, Winterton Rangers and Yorkshire Amateur.
There were seven league matches played, four in the Premier Division and three in Division One, with the scoreline of the day coming at Newark Road where the top flight's basement side, Lincoln Moorlands Railway, were beaten 10-0 by visitors, Scarborough.
Ryan Blott scored four of the goals, opening the scoring in the fourth minute, whilst Tom Claisse struck twice and Robert Hawkes, Peter Davison, Tom Adams and Patrick Miller also got on the scoresheet.
It equalled the division's biggest away win record with the same scoreline achieved three times before - Ossett Albion v Bridlington Trinity (1989/90), Harrogate Railway v Liversedge (1999/2000) and Brodsworth Welfare v Armthorpe Welfare (2009/10).
The Seadogs move up into second in the table, a point behind new leaders Worksop Parramore who were 2-1 winners at Barton Town Old Boys.
Lee Thompson gave the visitors a seventh-minute lead before Richard Medcalf equalised just after the hour but Lee Whittington quickly restored the Parras lead which, this time, they held on to.
Retford United are up into eighth after Rob Sanderson's early goal in their 1-0 win at home to the team who led the field at the start of the day, Brighouse Town.
And, the spoils were shared at Inkersall Road where Staveley Miners Welfare and Tadcaster Albion played out an enthralling 2-2 draw.
Division One leaders Athersley Recreation maintain a four point lead despite a 3-1 home loss to Eccleshill United.
Charlie Flaherty scored twice for the Eagles who are up to seventeenth and desperate to kick-start a disappointing start to their season.
Grimsby Borough's 1-0 home win over Hallam came courtesy of a second half Andrew Taylor strike and it finished 1-1 between Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Cleethorpes Town at the MDC Stadium.
