Baris NCEL 2012/13 Match Review #5
19th August, 2012
Worksop Parramore head a group of four teams on nine points at the top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division as their fine start to their first ever campaign at this level continued on Saturday.
Lee Whittington and Lee Holmes struck in the second half of their game at Maltby Main and, even though Craig Gladwin converted an 80th minute penalty for the hosts, the Parras held on to make sure they remained at the summit whilst Main were left still searching for their first points.
Scarborough Athletic, Long Eaton United and Liversedge are just behind Parramore on goal difference but all three have 100% records whilst the leaders have played one game more.
Scarborough took a third-minute lead through Gareth Clayton on three minutes before visitors Glasshoughton Welfare, who had lost both their opening two games, restored parity quickly with a Darrell Young penalty.
But, the Seadogs made sure of the victory early in the second period with goals from Ryan Blott and Andrew Milne.
Jordan Hunter and Cameron Martin got the first-half goals for Long Eaton at Lincoln Moorlands Railway who have the unenviable role of propping up the rest of the table.
Liversedge won 3-2 at Hall Road Rangers, another side yet to get off the mark this season, with Joe Jagger striking twice and Kieran Corley also finding the net in the opening period.
Rangers showed fighting spirit after the interval and got back to within one goal of their opponents with goals from Paul Wilson and Matthew Fyvie but they could not find that elusive equaliser.
Nostell Miners Welfare complete the sides on zero points after the third weekend of the new season after a Ryan Damms hat-trick helped condemn them to a 4-0 defeat at Staveley Miners Welfare.
Top scorers of the day were Heanor Town who thumped seven past hosts Armthorpe Welfare.
Stef Frost, Nathan Benger and Richie Holmes had them three-up by the interval before Nico Degirolamo made it four on 48 minutes, Holmes completed his brace and Josh Royce netted a couple.
Joe Lumsden got an injury time consolation for Welfare but they will have been left licking their wounds.
Pickering Town were 4-0 winners at Arnold Town whilst a Craig Hogg treble in three second-half minutes helped Bridlington Town to a 4-1 victory at Winterton Rangers.
Brighouse Town enjoyed a very comfortable afternoon despite going behind in the opening fifty seconds at home to Tadcaster Albion, Tom Matthews getting two in their 5-1 victory.
Parkgate were 2-1 winners at Retford United, a result that would have surprised many but was deserved by the visitors, and it was honours even at Dennyfield as Thackley were held to a 2-2 draw by Barton Town Old Boys.
Teversal stay top of Division One despite going down to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Eccleshill United.
The Eagles struck twice early on through Clifford Lyle and Lee Hill before Shaun Tuton pulled one back on 25 minutes but, surprisingly, that is how it remained until the final whistle.
Joining the Tevie Boys on six points are AFC Emley, Grimsby Borough, Clipstone Welfare and Askern Villa.
Emley won 5-1 on Friday night at home to bottom side Appleby Frodingham, the only side in the division now not to have picked up a point, with Dean Wharam and Anthony Haigh grabbing a brace each.
Borough were 3-2 victors over visitors Dinnington Town, courtesy of a last minute winner from Richard Creer whilst a Gavin King brace, one in each half, earned Clipstone a 2-0 home win over fellow NCEL newcomers, Knaresborough Town.
Villa, meanwhile, won 2-0 at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
There were dramatic away wins for Rossington Main and Louth Town with a David Holvey strike seven minutes from time securing Main a 4-3 victory in what was a rollercoaster match at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
Louth were 5-3 victors at Selby Town with the home side threatening a late comeback but a Matt Kennedy brace plus goals from Carl Martin, Jack Wightwick and Callum Hyland ensuring the away side had more than enough to take the three points.
Brenton Leister's first-half double for Pontefract Collieries helped them to a 4-1 win at home to Shirebrook Town whilst the spoils were shared in the other two Division One games.
Hallam picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Athersley Recreation whilst Bottesford Town were held by the same scoreline at home to Yorkshire Amateur.
