Baris NCEL 2012/13 Match Review #2
10th August, 2012
There was a second round of Premier Division matches and the League Cup got underway in the first batch of midweek games in the 2012/13 Baris Northern Counties East Football League season.
Seven teams made it two wins out of two in the top flight with Scarborough Athletic leading the field on goals scored ahead of Retford United.
Ryan Blott struck twice in the first half during the Seadogs' 4-1 home victory over Thackley whilst James Bennett and Ollie Ryan also found the net to put the game beyond doubt in the second period before Mark Bett claimed a late consolation for the visitors.
Retford, meanwhile, were single goal winners at home to Pickering Town, Andy Walkden grabbing the solitary strike of the evening in the 38th minute.
Liversedge and Long Eaton United also enjoyed home victories to make it a perfect start to their seasons.
Gibril Bojang, Tate Williams and Chris Wood all struck in the first 35 minutes for Sedge in their 3-2 defeat of Maltby Main whilst Shaun Rickford's first half brace helped Long Eaton to beat Staveley Miners Welfare, 3-1.
Barton Town Old Boys won by the same scoreline at home to Hall Road Rangers in the only Wednesday Premier Division game, Ray Ford striking twice and Ashley Lattimore getting the third, to make it six points for them as well.
And, Tadcaster Albion and Arnold Town can also boast 100% records after Robert Pell and Stuart Rice's goals in the first half secured Tadcaster a 2-0 victory over visitors Winterton Rangers and Arnold came from behind at Heanor Town to win 2-1.
Stef Frost had put Heanor in the lead on 28 minutes but they were quickly pegged back by Rob Gill and Aaron Large ensured the three points for the Eagles early in the second period.
Brian Cusworth and Nathan Forbes-Swindells both struck twice for Parkgate in their 5-2 win at home to Brighouse Town to add to their opening day draw.
Armthorpe Welfare, Bridlington Town and Worksop Parramore all picked up their first points of the new campaign with victories.
Tom Hyde's late winner saw Armthorpe triumph 2-1 at Nostell Miners Welfare, Craig Hogg's 20th minute strike was enough for a 1-0 win for Bridlington at Glasshoughton Welfare and Parramore thumped visitors Lincoln Moorlands Railway, 5-0.
Matty Thorpe, Scott Bates and Tom Roebuck had given them a three-goal advantage by the eleventh minute before William McGhie made it four on the half-hour and Lee Thompson added the fifth midway through the second half.
The two League Cup Preliminary Round matches both saw 3-1 victories for Athersley Recreation and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
The Recs defeated Yorkshire Amateur at home whilst a Lee Garside double helped Worsbrough to a win at Clipstone Welfare.
Of the seven First Round games that were played, it was Knaresborough Town who were the biggest winners in their first ever League Cup tie as they beat visitors Askern Villa, 6-0.
They were four-up by the interval thanks to two goals from Matt Thompson and one each for Dan Clayton and Paul Eagling.
In the second period, there were further strikes from David Burniston and Steve Davey.
Appleby Frodingham progressed following a penalty shoot-out at home to Eccleshill United, winning 5-4 on spot kicks after it had finished 2-2 after extra time.
Paul Goodhand's penalty in the 100th minute was the only goal in Louth Town's win at Bottesford Town, the only other game that required a further half-hour's play.
Nathan Perks struck twice in Pontefract Collieries' 3-1 home victory over Cleethorpes Town whilst their were 2-1 wins on their own patch for Dinnington Town, Teversal and Shirebrook Town.
Dave Cockerill netted a double for Teversal in their triumph over Rossington Main, as did Michael Taylor as Shirebrook progressed at the expense of Selby Town.
And, Dinnington booked their place in the Second Round as they beat Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
