Baris NCEL Match Review #59

17th March, 2013

There was no let-up in the race for the Baris NCEL Premier Division title with all three of the top sides winning on Saturday whilst Selby Town moved off the bottom of Division One as their recent good form continues.

In a league schedule badly hit by heavy overnight rain, Brighouse Town stay at the summit after an 8-1 home win over Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Danny Nadiole and Tom Matthews both struck twice in a game which saw the contest over by the half-time interval.

Ernest Boafo, Leon Henry, Adam Wilson and Craig Thompson also got on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Scarborough Athletic remain within a point of the leaders with a 4-2 victory at Parkgate.

The Seadogs took the lead through Ryan Blott's 33rd league goal of the season on ten minutes but they were then pegged back by a Sam Smith penalty.

Jimmy Beadle and a spot kick from Bryan Hughes, though, gave them a 3-1 advantage late in the opening period before Beadle concluded the scoring as the game went into second half stoppage time.

Third-placed Bridlington Town kept their title hopes alive with a 4-1 victory over visitors Hall Road Rangers, Scott Phillips scoring twice after Josh Greening and Chris Batchelor had given them a two goal lead by the interval.

The Seasiders are eight points behind Brighouse but have two games in hand so will still feel they are in with a shout whilst Rangers stay next-to-bottom in an increasingly nervy relegation tussle.

Kyle Hawthorne rescued a point for Tadcaster Albion, who are fifth, in a 1-1 home draw with Thackley after Dempsey Smith had given the visitors a 73rd minute lead.

The Brewers are now just a point ahead of Retford United who, courtesy of goals from Richard Medcalf and Reece Thompson, won 2-0 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare who have now lost seven matches in a row.

A Liam Salt hat-trick secured a 3-1 home win for Pickering Town over Barton Town Old Boys to keep above their opponents in seventh.

And, Glasshoughton Welfare won 2-0 against visitors Long Eaton United, thanks to a Darrell Young double.

In Division One, Selby are out of the basement for the first time since the beginning of November after their 5-2 victory at Eccleshill United, Tom Owen and Jack Wooley with two each to help move the Robins away from the relegation zone.

The two sides standing on the trapdoor are Askern Villa and Yorkshire Amateur who were both beaten on their travels.

Villa are bottom after a 4-0 defeat at AFC Emley, who climbed into fifth spot with their victory, courtesy of John Cyrus' first half strike that was added to in the second period by a Matthew Brown own goal.

Liam Schofield then got the Pewits' third straight from a corner before Ashley Flynn netted his 38th goal of the season with three minutes remaining.

Yorkshire Amateur, who have played three or four games more than their fellow strugglers, lost 5-2 at Rossington Main, Ben Hunter with a couple for the home side to ease their relegation fears.

Pontefract Collieries boosted their promotion hopes with a 3-1 victory at third-placed Knaresborough Town, Andrew Catton with a brace for the Colls.

And, two goals in the last ten minutes from Nick Pickersgill and Damon Cassell saw Hemsworth Miners Welfare snatch an unlikely victory in a 4-3 thriller at Dinnington Town.
