Yorkshire Trophy to go ahead
8th April, 2021
Organisers Brighouse Town have announced that the Yorkshire Trophy is still on, but it will begin later than originally scheduled and with a different team line-up.
The post-season tournament was due to start next week and included eight Toolstation NCEL sides.
However, Government guidelines released this week as part of their roadmap out of COVID-19 lockdown means that it will be delayed until the middle of next month when fans are allowed to attend matches at stadiums.
Five of our sides - Eccleshill United, Garforth Town, Thackley, Silsden AFC and Emley AFC - have announced that they have withdrawn from the competition.
Campion, Liversedge and Penistone Church were the other three NCEL teams named in the original competition line-up.
The statement released on Brighouse Town's website reads: "We can confirm that the Yorkshire Trophy tournament will still be taking place.
"The tournament dates have altered so that the tournament takes place from 17th May when fans can attend stadiums, according to government guidance.
"The teams in the tournament have been altered as well due to some teams pulling out. The final teams will be revealed in the coming days.
"The number of fans that can attend each stadia is dependent on the size of each club’s stadium capacity and it’s half of that capacity in which the clubs will be allowed to admit.
