Two Toolstation NCEL players have raised over £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after finishing a 70-mile coast-to-coast walk at the weekend.James Eyles, who plays for Emley AFC, and Liversedge's Joe Walton have raised over four times the amount they expected after initially setting a target of £500 for their walk that began in Carlisle on Friday evening and finished in Tynemouth 27 hours later.
Writing on their gofundme fundraising page, James said: "It’s got to that time of the year to do something absolutely stupid again in the name of charity!"
And, he explained why they wanted to help Macmillan: "It is something that is close to everyone’s hearts and that’s no different to our own families.
"Joe's mum Kath, tragically passed away from cancer nine years ago and my auntie Diane is currently undergoing treatment in America."
At the time of writing, £2,350 has been raised with donations still coming in. For more information on how you can donate,
