Rangers lead tributes to Peter Marshall
7th March, 2021
Clubs in the Toolstation NCEL have been paying tribute to Peter Marshall after Winterton Rangers announced that he had passed away towards the end of February after contracting COVID-19.
He was well known in the league for printing programmes for a number of clubs, so it came as a massive shock when a statement was released on Winterton's social media, reading: "Winterton Rangers are saddened to report that local boy and big friend of the club, Peter Marshall, passed away last week following a brave battle with coronavirus.
"Only in his early fifties, Pete briefly assisted Paul Friskney in managing the team back in the 2013/14 season and actually appeared in the first team when they were short, playing alongside his son, Declan (pictured).
"He also leaves his wife Zoe and daughter Nicole.
"Pete and Zoe are well known both in North Lincolnshire and Northern Counties East League circles for running Newton Printing Services in Barton-upon-Humber.
"They have been printing Rangers match programmes since 1990 and, in recent years, have also added Barton Town and Bridlington Town to their programme stable.
"Bridlington chairman Peter Smurthwaite also uses the firm for all his printing needs, both football and business.
"Pete Marshall will be missed by many friends in and around Winterton and everyone at the MKM Stadium - the staff and players - send their condolences to Zoe, Dec and Nicole."
Barton Town reacted to the sad news on social media, posting: "We’re saddened to hear this. Everyone at the club sends their condolences to Pete’s family and friends at this awful time.
"Newton Printing Services have been printing our programmes for a while now and Pete always went the extra mile for his clients. RIP."
Bridlington Town added: "Such sad news - Pete was a really good guy. Not only did he print our programmes but he also sponsored the club training jackets.
"If we had charity matches, he always donated the programmes - such a nice guy with a big heart. RIP Pete."
The Toolstation NCEL would like to send our deepest condolences to Peter's family and friends - and we hugely appreciate the time and dedication he put into helping and supporting clubs in our league.
