Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2020/21 #22

11th April, 2021

North Ferriby are into the Fourth Round of the Buildbase FA Vase after a 1-0 home win in their replayed tie with Seaham Red Star on Saturday, the first competitive action for a Toolstation NCEL side since the end of December.

Ironically, it was the original clash between these two teams that was the last match before lockdown at the New Year, the Villagers winning on penalties following a 2-2 draw on that occasion, before the game was ordered to be replayed due to the fielding of an ineligible player.

So, 102 days after they had thought they had booked their place in the last 32, Chris Bolder's side faced their Ebac Northern League visitors once more and, thanks to a late goal, they finally ensured a home match with West Auckland Town next weekend.

In what was a pulsating tie played behind closed doors at the Dransfield Stadium, those watching the match online had to wait until the 87th minute for the breakthrough.

Substitute Daniel East was the provider for Joel Shortland who fired past the visiting keeper to claim the hard-earned victory in another close match between these two sides.

Bolder said: "I thought from start to finish we were the better side all over the pitch and, considering we haven't played a competitive game for a long period of time, at times I thought our quality was brilliant.

"It was the will to win and the endeavour from the lads and it was a very pleasing victory as when we do score late on in games it goes to show our fitness levels.

"We are desperate to win every game of football and, for Joel, I thought his all-round play was outstanding and he capped off a fine display with a goal."

Liversedge, who are the other remaining NCEL team in the competition, prepared for their Fourth Round tie at Hebburn Town next weekend with a home friendly against league rivals Garforth Town.

Nicky Boshell gave them a first-half lead before Sam Denton levelled near the hour mark but Oliver Fearon struck in the 69th minute to give the hosts a 2-1 victory.
