AFC Mansfield will be the Toolstation NCEL's sole representatives in the First Round Qualifying of this season's Emirates FA Cup following an excellent win at Cleethorpes Town on Saturday. The Bulls took an early lead at their Northern Premier League opponents, Lynton Karkach netting after just four minutes.
And, despite some nailbiting moments towards the end of the tie, Matt Chatfield's side held on to beat their higher-ranked hosts 1-0 to book their much-deserved place in Monday's draw.
Sadly, that was the only victory on a disappointing afternoon overall as our six other representatives all bowed out at the Preliminary Round stage.
Bottesford Town came closest to success as Dayle Hutson's 55th-minute penalty saw them draw level at Long Eaton United in a game that went to spot kicks after the match ended 1-1.
But, it was the Midland League hosts who went through, winning 4-2 in the shoot-out.
Toby Harris struck for
Knaresborough Town who were beaten 3-1 at home by Workington whilst there were goals for Leon Hurles-Brook and Khurram Shazad in
Silsden's 5-2 loss to visitors Bootle.
Barton Town and
Albion Sports both went down 2-0 on their travels to Quorn and Runcorn Linnets, respectively.
And, there was also disappointment for
Maltby Main as Newark prevailed 4-0 at Muglet Lane.
Another chance for silverware and a trip to Wembley Stadium begins next weekend with thirty of our teams taking part in the First Round Qualifying of the Buildbase FA Vase.
