Ammers Face Army in Charity Match

10th June, 2009

Yorkshire Amateur are delighted to confirm a pre-season friendly against The Yorkshire Regiment who return from action in Iraq next month.

The match is in honour of their home-coming and will be taking place at Bracken Edge on Wednesday 22nd July, kick off 7.30pm.

Yorkshire Amateur Chairlady Jeni French said: "We are honoured they have agreed to play us in the middle of the home-coming parades that are taking place across the county that week.

"There will be a real family feel to the event as I'm sure the Yorkshire Regiment will be bringing lots of support with them.

"We will also be raising money on the night for the well publicised Help the Heroes Charity and the game itself will be covered by several media."

This event has come about as The Army are the main sponsors of Yorkshire Amateur Under 19s who were narrowly beaten by Scarborough in the League Cup Final, which was attended by representatives of the Army on the day.

When the Club asked if there was anything they could do to support their local regiment, the 'game plan' was hatched.

Fans of any club are extremely welcome on the night, it will be a great game and we really want to show as much support as possible to the lads who have just returned home from Basra.

Yorkshire Amateur also have friendlies at Bracken Edge against Farsley Celtic on Thursday 30th July and are away to Sherburn White Rose on Saturday 1st August.

Ammers Bolster Management Team

18th April, 2009

Yorkshire Amateur have announced that a new face will join their management team for next season.

Gary Strodder, who started his career at the Ammers before making almost eighty appearances for West Ham United at centre-half, will be returning to Bracken Edge.

Alongside current management duo Graham Hodder and Dave Holmes, he will help the players make the best of their talents as the club looks to improve next season.

A club spokesperson said: "Whilst this season's position doesn't reflect the quality of players and fantastic performances put in, as many teams have agreed throughout the campaign, there has been an ongoing issue with injuries throughout the season.

"But, the management staff are sure that the potential of the team coupled with the youth and passion will give them the ability to really push for the top next season."
