Robins Pre-Season Starts on Saturday

19th June, 2012

Selby Town are commencing preparations for the 2012/13 season on Saturday (23rd) at 12pm at the Rigid Stadium.

This will be the Robins first pre-season training session and all players, new and old, are welcome to attend as they look at players for all their senior teams.

This will be the first time for many players to meet the new management team of Phil Jones and Nigel Emery as they get ready for the Baris NCEL Division One campaign.

The club will be going straight into pre-season friendlies the following week, Saturday 30th June, against DMS at the Rigid Stadium.

This will be the first of a number of friendlies as the new season starts in earnest.

The games then come thick and fast as the Robins look forward to their first league encounter on August 4th.

They have a number of games in the pipe line and details will follow shortly when the schedule is finished.

But, the club can confirm that a Grimsby Town XI will be coming to the Rigid Stadium on Saturday 14th July.

Then, newly promoted Bradford Park Avenue will be bringing a strong team to Selby on Tuesday 31st July and the Robins will play Goole AFC on Saturday 28th July.

The club are also holding a sponsors day on Saturday 21st June when a Selby XI will take on a Doosan XI, again at the Rigid Stadium.

Jones is New Selby Boss

31st May, 2012

Selby Town are pleased to announce their new management team to take the club forward after the departure of Graham Hodder at the end of last season.

The Robins were inundated with good applications and, after numerous interviews, the club felt that Phil Jones was the man best qualified to take the club forward, assisted by local coach Nigel Emery.

Jones was a former Grimsby Town trainee who had trials at Lincoln City and Bradford City, and competed for two years in League of Ireland.

Jones has got FA coaching badges up to level 2 and started last season assisting Leon Sewell at Selby Town before leaving to manage Boston Town Reserves.

There, he was promoted to first team manager later on in the season but decided to leave that role to take on the post of the Selby Town manager.

A club spokesperson said: "Jones knows the job is going to be a hard one, but is up for the challenge ahead, and is confident in his abilities to put together a good management team, a squad of players that will be ready for the challenge and more importantly play football the right way.

"From the start, the players will be made aware of the history of Selby Town and the pride that goes with pulling on the red shirt.

"Jones can promise the fans there won't be any team fitter than Selby, or have a bigger desire to win a game.

"Fitness and conditioning coaches will be appointed, along with a dietician to give the players the best chance of avoiding injuries, as well as being able to look after their bodies during the week.

"The season ahead is going to be a long and hard one, but Jones promises he will put a smile back on their faces of the fans and give them a team to be proud of."

Nigel Emery comes straight from managing local side Thorpe United and had a successful season winning the County Cup in his first season at the helm.

Emery spent 3 months at Burnley in 1988 but declined a contract as Sheffield Wednesday were showing interest in the player.

He played for Selby Town from 1989 to 1993 before moving onto Sherburn White Rose.

In 2004, Emery started playing for Harrogate Veterans and, four years later, started playing for England Veterans and was part of the England Veterans World Cup winning team in 2009.

The coming season promises to be a new start at the club and the committee would like to welcome the new additions.

They are also pleased to invite all players, old and new, and supporters to meet the new manager at Selby Town's Rigid Stadium Friday 1st June from 7.30pm.

Hodder is New Robins Boss

28th December, 2011

There has been a change of manager at Baris NCEL Premier Division strugglers Selby Town with Graham Hodder replacing David Heard at the helm.

A statement from the Rigid Group Stadium side reads: "It is with regret that Selby Town have parted company with manager David Heard after sixteen games in charge.

"With only seven points from a possible 45, the committee thought a change now was the only way forward in a bid to stave off relegation.

"Selby Town would like to thank Dave for all his work, after coming into the job in difficult circumstances, and wish him all the best for the future.

"Selby Town have sixteen games left and have appointed ex-Yorkshire Amateur and Rothwell Town boss Graham Hodder as the new manager.

"Graham brings a wealth of experience to the club after for years at Amateur and another three years managing at county level.

"The new manager will be thrown in at the deep end, with his first game in charge on Monday 2nd January at home to Liversedge."

Robins Change of Manager

21st September, 2011

Baris NCEL Premier Division side Selby Town have announced a change of manager at the Rigid Group Stadium.

A statement from the club reads: "It is with regret that Selby Town have parted company with manager Leon Sewell after only nine games in charge.

"Selby Town felt that a change was needed sooner rather than later after the team had managed only two points from their opening nine fixtures.

"The season is already a quarter of the way through for the club and, if they are to avoid relegation this term, a change was thought necessary now.

"The club would like to thank Leon, for all his hard work and commitment to the club, and wish him every success in the future.

"Selby Town have wasted no time in appointing Leon's successor. It was important that a manager was put in place as soon as possible as the club are in a perilous position, and he will need to get to know the strengths of the team as soon as possible, especially in time for their next league fixture away at Arnold Town on October 1st.

"Dave Heard has been appointed this week as new first team manager, and he will be bringing coach Duncan McNaughton with him.

"Dave has managed and coached in just about every standard League down from the Blue Square, and in most recent times had a 6 year spell at Harrogate Town.

"In his final season at Harrogate Town as the Reserve Team Manager/Coach he won the Lancashire Football League Title.

"Dave is looking forward to this new challenge at Selby Town F.C.

"Dave wants to improve the football at the club for both now and the future.

"Dave has said 'We are looking forward to a long and successful time at the Club pushing forward and not looking back at the past.'

"Selby Town are looking forward to the new management team turning the fortunes of the club around as soon as is possible, and that starts this week with an FA Vase tie at home to Winterton Rangers on Saturday."

New Manager at Selby

18th June, 2011

After considerable debate and deliberation, Selby Town have found a management team to take the club forward into a new era.

Leon Sewell is to take charge with immediate effect and, along with Jody Barford, will be hoping to establish his stamp on Selby Town.

And the club say Leon is aware of the financial restraints the Robins are in at the moment but is not phased by that and hopes to step up to the task ahead.

He said: "As I have knowledge of the current squad, I will be assisted by the current goalkeeper, Jody Barford.

"He will be a crucial cog in attracting former players back to the club as well as seeking out any local players to Selby Town.

"Both myself and Jody have a lot of Northern Counties East League experience and we both understand the demands of a very competitive standard.

"As a pair, we will look to stabilise Selby Town in the Premier Division without putting the club in more financial trouble, so big money players will be off our radar.

"In time, I would like to bring a third member in to work alongside the two of us.

"But, for the time being, we believe we have enough knowledge and confidence in our ability to run the club and build for the future.

"We are very grateful to the committee to give us the opportunity to manage such a huge club like Selby Town."

A statement from the Robins said: "We at Selby Town are flattered by the interest we have had in the position of manager and there have been some fantastic CVs sent in.

"It would be unfair to name the other candidates but we wish all the unsuccessful candidates the very best for their future.

"We feel we have made the best decision giving all the circumstances and now look forward to the new campaign with renewed enthusiasm."

The first pre-season training session is set for next Saturday (25th) at 11 am and all interested players new and old will be most welcome.
