Funding Boost for Bottesford

8th June, 2009

Bottesford Town recently had cause to celebrate following a ?186,180 grant awarded by the Football Foundation.

The cash bonanza from the UK's largest sports charity is a major contribution towards the club's ?342,405 project which provides changing room facilities and the enhancement of the immediate surrounding area at their Birch Park ground.

It enables the club to meet its current and future needs of its development as a FA Charter Standard Community Club.

It will provide for four changing rooms with showers, two officials changing rooms, W.C. provision for male, female and disabled, disability access, a meeting room, a player's treatment room and a utilities room.

The proposed layout will accommodate all personnel who utilise the present playing facilities at Birch Park, all on a seven days a week basis.

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation and the FSIF, said: "We warmly congratulate Bottesford Town Football Club and the Lincolnshire County FA for their hard work and dedication in securing this award.

"Sport is playing a central role in helping people to stay fit, strengthen communities and promote responsibility amongst young people.

"I am delighted that Football Foundation funding and FSIF funding are supporting this excellent facility project in Scunthorpe that will improve the quality of sporting experience enjoyed by the Football Club, as well as local people."

Tony Reeve, Chairman of Bottesford Town FC, said: "The project has come to fruition as a result of the efforts and hard work undertaken by members of the Football Club management team and the significant support and contributions from a number of 'partners' in the project.

"Guidance was sought and obtained from the Lincolnshire Football Association who in conjunction with the Football Foundation Technical Department assisted in determining the project specification.

"The Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire team (VANL) provided guidance on how to approach partnership funding and, as a result, we established the following 'stakeholders' in our scheme to all of whom I express the sincere thanks of the Football Club:

"The Landfill Communities Fund of Waste Recycling Group (WRG) which is administered by the Environmental Body WREN, who provided a grant of ?46,760.

"To Biffaward, a multi-million pound environment fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT), which utilises landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste Services, a grant of ?38,377.

"The Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF) who contributed ?16,093 towards the scheme on the basis that the club's 1st team who play in Division 1 of the Northern Counties East League, will benefit from the use of the facilities."

The Chairman went on to emphasise the support that the club had received throughout the planning and preparation phases of the scheme from members of the North Lincolnshire Council who awarded the Club with a grant of ?30,000 from the 'Aid to Communities' Fund, and also the local Bottesford Town Council who also made a generous donation of ?5,000 towards the project.

Bottesford Get Lights Funding Boost

4th December, 2008

Bottesford Town have been awarded ?10,240 by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), supporters of the Football Foundation, and the largest funder of non-league football in the country.

The funding represents 50% towards the replacement of outdated floodlights and associated switch and control gear.

The previous floodlights, incorporating second hand equipment, were installed in 1995 and, due to their condition, despite regular maintenance, struggled to meet the required level of illumination (average 120 lux) without the replacement of a significant number of light fittings.

The new floodlight installation meets the ground grading criteria for playing football at Step 2 of the Football Pyramid (average 180 lux).

Over ?90m has already been invested by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund since its launch in July 2000, funding lower league ground improvements throughout professional and amateur game, creating a safe and modern environment for fans and players to enjoy the game.

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund and Football Foundation, said: "On behalf of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, I am delighted to be able to award this grant to Bottesford Town FC.

"A vibrant community team is vital for the future of football.

"The Football Stadia Improvement Fund's aim is to revolutionise funding for the grass roots in the same way the professional game has been transformed over the last ten years.

"I pay a particular tribute to the hard work and dedication all at the club for making this funding a reality."

Tony Reeve, Chairman of Bottesford Town FC, said: "On behalf of Bottesford Town FC, I extend our thanks to both the Football Foundation and the North Lincolnshire Council for their continual support of the Club, and also the FA National Sports Centre Trust for their generous contribution to the project.

"We now look forward to the next phase of the ongoing developments at the Club which will hopefully see the fruition of two years of planning and preparation by members of the Club Management team for a Multi-Purpose Changing Room Development which will be for the use of all who play their sport at Birch Park, the home of Bottesford Town Football Club."

A game is to be arranged in the New Year with a professional Football Club to mark the official switching-on of the lights.

Keeper Joins Iron

17th August, 2008

Bottesford Town's young goalkeeper Sam Slocombe has signed a six-month contract with Scunthorpe United.

The highly-rated 20-year-old will stay with the Iron until January, when the club?will make a decision on his future.

Slocombe, who played as a young lad at Lincoln City, trained with the first-team squad today and was named as a substitute for Saturday's League One match at Walsall.

But that doesn't bother the latest recruit who was just thankful for the?chance to be at the club.

"It's just great to get the opportunity, I'm really grateful to them for giving me the opportunity but I?ve just got to take it now" he said.

"I'm from Scunthorpe, just up the road actually,?so?I was a fan before playing Saturday football got in the way."
Goalkeeping coach Kevin Pressman admitted it wasn't ideal timing but felt the former Bottesford man could be worth signing up for longer than his initial short term deal.

"To get Sam in and to work with him is great and also to push him on, personally I?ve got high hopes for him" he said.

"I'm expecting him to come on and improve and show that he?s worthy of a longer contract and a future with the club?- that?s my goal."
