Badgers Management Ready for NCEL
20th June, 2011
Retford United's management team is getting ready for the club's return to the Baris Northern Counties East Football League.
The Badgers decided to take a step down in the National League System and return to the NCEL for the first time in five years.
It has been all change in the dug-out with Brett Marshall returning to the club to be boss.
The 42-year-old former Blidworth Welfare manager said: "It's good to be back.
"I'm wanting to get local interest back at the club, getting the local people back and taking an interest in their side.
"I want to get people smiling again and the club winning football games - it's as simple as that for me."
Marshall was previously at Cannon Park during the early 2000s as assistant manager where, among the success, was one noteable season in 2003/04 when the club completed the treble as they were promoted from the Central Midlands League.
After a season in NCEL Division One, Marshall moved onto Southwell City before taking the helm at Kirkby Town and latterly coming to within a whisker of the Central Midlands league title at Blidworth Welfare last season.
Meanwhile, Marshall has brought Graham Walker to the club to be his assistant.
Walker, 53, has 23 years experience in management and has joined the club from East Midlands Counties League side Gedling Miners Welfare where he was in charge for two years.
He has also managed Arnold Kingswell, winning the Notts Senior League and Cup, Kimberley Town, winning promotion to the Central Midlands Supreme Division, Long Eaton United, Borrowash Victoria and Calverton Miners Welfare, finishing runners-up in the Central Midlands Premier Division and third in the Supreme.
They will be joined by UEFA A qualified coach Tony Cook as they prepare for the new season.
