New Manager at Selby
18th June, 2011
After considerable debate and deliberation, Selby Town have found a management team to take the club forward into a new era.
Leon Sewell is to take charge with immediate effect and, along with Jody Barford, will be hoping to establish his stamp on Selby Town.
And the club say Leon is aware of the financial restraints the Robins are in at the moment but is not phased by that and hopes to step up to the task ahead.
He said: "As I have knowledge of the current squad, I will be assisted by the current goalkeeper, Jody Barford.
"He will be a crucial cog in attracting former players back to the club as well as seeking out any local players to Selby Town.
"Both myself and Jody have a lot of Northern Counties East League experience and we both understand the demands of a very competitive standard.
"As a pair, we will look to stabilise Selby Town in the Premier Division without putting the club in more financial trouble, so big money players will be off our radar.
"In time, I would like to bring a third member in to work alongside the two of us.
"But, for the time being, we believe we have enough knowledge and confidence in our ability to run the club and build for the future.
"We are very grateful to the committee to give us the opportunity to manage such a huge club like Selby Town."
A statement from the Robins said: "We at Selby Town are flattered by the interest we have had in the position of manager and there have been some fantastic CVs sent in.
"It would be unfair to name the other candidates but we wish all the unsuccessful candidates the very best for their future.
"We feel we have made the best decision giving all the circumstances and now look forward to the new campaign with renewed enthusiasm."
The first pre-season training session is set for next Saturday (25th) at 11 am and all interested players new and old will be most welcome.
