Budding Refs Get a Taste of the Action

19th August, 2011

Grimsby Borough hosted a visit of young referees at this week's home game with Yorkshire Amateur so that the budding match officials could watch and scrutinise the team of match officials.

The Baris NCEL Division One team sees this as part of their role in the Respect campaign and were pleased to see it being led by Steve Lazenby, the East Riding FA Referees Officer, and Steve Wright, the Grimsby RA Training Officer.

The referees were given pre-match info and then allowed onto the pitch to speak to the team of Danny Cook and his two linesman.

Once the Wilkinson Sword Trophy cup tie got going, they were allowed to watch the game from different parts of the ground and then, at the end, they met with the officials to discuss all aspects of the match.

The whole evening was a great result and Grimsby Borough looks forward to doing it again for future matches so that these referees can apply themselves and maybe get to officiate at Baris NCEL level.
