Keeper Joins Iron
17th August, 2008
Bottesford Town's young goalkeeper Sam Slocombe has signed a six-month contract with Scunthorpe United.
The highly-rated 20-year-old will stay with the Iron until January, when the club?will make a decision on his future.
Slocombe, who played as a young lad at Lincoln City, trained with the first-team squad today and was named as a substitute for Saturday's League One match at Walsall.
But that doesn't bother the latest recruit who was just thankful for the?chance to be at the club.
"It's just great to get the opportunity, I'm really grateful to them for giving me the opportunity but I?ve just got to take it now" he said.
"I'm from Scunthorpe, just up the road actually,?so?I was a fan before playing Saturday football got in the way."
Goalkeeping coach Kevin Pressman admitted it wasn't ideal timing but felt the former Bottesford man could be worth signing up for longer than his initial short term deal.
"To get Sam in and to work with him is great and also to push him on, personally I?ve got high hopes for him" he said.
"I'm expecting him to come on and improve and show that he?s worthy of a longer contract and a future with the club?- that?s my goal."
