Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #54

20th April, 2012

Bridlington Town came from two goals down by the interval to pick up three points at Armthorpe Welfare on Tuesday night to move them back to the top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division table.

Retford United, who were leading at the start of the evening, must have thought the title challenge was swinging further their way when Stuart Preston put the home side ahead and Paul Ashton doubled the advantage by the half-hour.

But, the Seasiders fought back after the break, started by Ashley Allanson before a Craig Hogg brace and one from Nathan Cook ensured the victory was theirs.

They are now two points clear of Retford and they have two games to play, one fewer than their trophy rivals.

Handsworth's lead at the Division One summit is down to two points but second-placed Worksop Parramore will be very disappointed to have drawn 2-2 at home to Shirebrook Town.

Twice they led through Lee Holmes and Liam Morris but their Derbyshire visitors snatched a point in injury time through Lee Briggs to deny Parramore a chance to go level on points with the leaders.

Glasshoughton Welfare kept their promotion challenge up with a 9-1 home win over Grimsby Borough to strengthen their grip on third spot.

There were hat-tricks for Andy Catton and Josh Moore, Lee Bennett struck twice and Liam Radford scored their ninth before an injury time consolation from Tom Parker.

AFC Emley's match at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic was abandoned after 25 minutes with the score at 0-0 due to floodlight failure and will be replayed.

The three games planned for Wednesday, including the President's Cup Final between Barton Town Old Boys and Handsworth, were called off due to waterlogged pitches.

But, one match did get played on Thursday and Shirebrook, as they did 48 hours earlier, drew 2-2 and had to wait until injury time to get the point, this time at home to AFC Emley.

Julian Topliss converted a last-gasp spot kick after Steven McGurk's own goal had seemingly given the visitors the victory.
