Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #45
18th March, 2012
It continues to be an intriguing chase for the Baris NCEL Premier Division title as the four top sides at the start of the day all won on Saturday.
It means that Bridlington Town lead Retford United on goal difference whilst Winterton Rangers remain third, three points behind the leading pair and three ahead of Staveley Miners Welfare who stay fourth.
Bridlington required a goal in the last quarter-of-an-hour from Josh Greening to take the victory at home to Long Eaton United.
They were ahead by the interval through an own goal but Dominic Jones restored parity on 65 minutes before the Seasiders claimed the 2-1 win.
Karl Slack was the hat-trick hero for Retford as they beat visitors Armthorpe Welfare, 3-1, whilst Winterton also won by the same scoreline at home to Liversedge.
James Riordan's first-half own goal was cancelled out by David Boardman for the away side soon after the break.
But, within five minutes, Rangers had opened up the two-goal advantage through Kyle Hadley and a Jake Stannard penalty.
Staveley were 4-1 winners at home to Parkgate, leaving the visitors almost certainly out of the title chase now.
Ryan Damms netted three times for the hosts, one from the spot, and Simon Barraclough concluded the scoring late on after Brian Cusworth had given Parkgate an eighteenth minute lead.
Scarborough Athletic go above Parkgate into fifth spot after winning 4-3 in an entertaining game at Hall Road Rangers.
The Seadogs were two up after twenty minutes through goals from Ryan Blott and Patrick Miller but the scores were level by half-time as Neil Towler and Mark Griffin levelled for Rangers.
Towler then scored his second to put the hosts ahead before Blott completed his hat-trick to regain the advantage for the visitors.
The last thirteen minutes saw three red cards as Rangers keeper Mike Burley clashed with Scarborough's Tony Hackworth and, in injury time, Towler's day ended badly as he was given his marching orders.
Bottom side Selby Town are now six points adrift after they were beaten 4-0 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare.
And, there were draws for the two sides above them who are trying to avoid finishing up in a relegation place.
Maltby Main snatched a 1-1 draw at home to Tadcaster Albion with Jonathan Wragg netting in stoppage time for the nineteenth-placed side.
And, Lincoln Moorlands Railway drew 1-1 at Arnold Town, Luke Forbes' penalty for them cancelled out by Luke Smithson.
Elsewhere, Thackley won 3-2 at home to Pickering Town and stay ninth with now a massive twelve point gap between themselves and tenth spot.
Handsworth came from behind to beat hosts Dinnington Town and keep their six point lead at the top of Division One.
Michael Trench had put Dinno ahead on 34 minutes but Callum Ward struck early in the second period and Luke Broadbent got the winner on the hour mark.
Albion Sports have moved up into second spot after a late show earned them a 3-0 home win over Louth Town, Adam Jones opening the scoring on 60 minutes before a double from Jordan Missin.
Jordan Hatton struck twice and Tom Nolan also found the net for Worksop Parramore as they beat hosts Glasshoughton Welfare 3-0 to leapfrog them into third spot.
Pontefract Collieries drop to fifth after their 1-0 defeat at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Scott Ruthern with the vital strike on the hour.
Rossington Main continued their best ever season in the Baris NCEL with a 4-0 home win over ten-man Shirebrook Town.
Adam Wisdom broke the deadlock on 56 minutes before William McGhie quickly doubled their advantage.
Shirebrook's keeper Craig Payne was sent off for handling outside the area and Jonathan Mirfin struck twice to complete the victory.
Bottom side Appleby Frodingham went down 2-1 at home to Askern Villa whilst the side just above them, Grimsby Borough, had a miserable afternoon against visitors Teversal.
They were beaten 4-0 and Nathan Emson suffered a broken leg for the hosts with all at the Baris NCEL wishing the youngster a quick recovery.
Two goals apiece from Mark Stuart and John Cyrus saw AFC Emley win 4-0 at Hallam whilst Eccleshill United were 4-1 victors at Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Yorkshire Amateur drew 1-1 at home to Bottesford Town.
