Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #28
8th January, 2012
Retford United won the battle of the top two of the Baris NCEL Premier Division on Saturday to move five points clear at the top of the table.
It took 62 minutes for the deadlock to be broken at Tadcaster Albion when Warren Hatfield netted the Badgers' opener and Carl Haslam then struck twice in the last quarter-of-an-hour to claim a 3-0 victory.
Third-placed Bridlington Town were two goals to the good by half-time at home to Arnold Town, courtesy of strikes from Josh Greening and Nathan Cook.
But, the Eagles rallied in the second period and claimed a point as Philip Buxton scored on 80 minutes and Cook put through his own net shortly afterwards to make it 2-2.
The rest of the title-chasing pack all won with Winterton Rangers, Parkgate, Staveley Miners Welfare and Scarborough Athletic picking up three points.
Liam Slack gave Winterton an early lead at Brighouse Town and that was added to in the second period by Gavin Cooper and Shaun Nesbitt for Rangers' 3-0 win.
A double from Danny Barlow helped Parkgate to a 4-2 home victory over Nostell Miners Welfare whilst first-half strikes from Simon Barraclough and Joe Thornton were enough for a 2-1 win at next-to-bottom Maltby Main for Staveley.
Adam Lee and Ryan Blott both struck twice for Scarborough as they beat hosts Long Eaton United, 5-0.
Barton Town Old Boys made sure of three points at home to Armthorpe Welfare in the opening 23 minutes as Gareth Barlow scored twice and Tom Lee also found the net in that period to secure a 3-0 victory.
It was also an early show for Thackley as they won 4-0 over visitors Liversedge with Nicky Matthews grabbing a brace and Callum White and Dempsey Smith scoring by just after the half-hour mark.
Basement side Selby Town are now eight points behind eighteenth placed Lincoln Moorlands Railway after their 3-1 defeat at Newark Road.
Pontefract Collieries remain at the top of Division One despite early goals from Liam Cartledge and Matthew Smith that saw them go down 2-0 at home to Dinnington Town.
Second-placed Albion Sports had their home game with Grimsby Borough postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Glasshoughton Welfare, who were third at the start of play, missed out on a chance to close the gap as they were beaten 2-1 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic despite going ahead after six minutes through Lee Bennett.
Adam Podmore and Scott Turner struck in the second period to give the hosts the victory.
Handsworth and Worksop Parramore leapt above Glasshoughton with a 4-0 home win over Yorkshire Amateur and a 2-0 victory at AFC Emley, respectively.
Sam Smith netted twice for Handsworth whilst David Cockerill and Chasinga Nshindano also got on the scoresheet.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Eccleshill United kept themselves in the promotion hunt with 2-1 away wins.
Hemsworth are now sixth after Jon Impey's 64th-minute winner at Louth Town, a point ahead of Eccleshill who beat Bottesford Town.
Hallam had a comfortable afternoon with a 4-1 victory at bottom side Appleby Frodingham, Liam Morris striking twice in two second half minutes for the visitors to add to earlier goals from Aaron Moxam and Craig Getliff.
And, the spoils were shared at Langwith Road as Shirebrook Town twice led through goals from Mitchell Slawson and Danny Naylor but were held to a 2-2 draw by Askern Villa whose scorers were Jamie Sherlock and Nigel Croad.
