Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #25
18th December, 2011
Retford United and Albion Sports are the Christmas leaders in the Baris Northern Counties East League after both picked up victories on Saturday.
Retford went behind after just twenty seconds to a David Boardman goal at home to Liversedge but the Badgers were 3-1 up by the interval, courtesy of an Adam Scott double and a third from Warren Hatfield.
A Corey Nightingale own goal on 79 minutes brought Sedge back to within a goal of their hosts but Barry Payne calmed the nerves as the game went into injury time to secure a 4-2 victory.
Retford are now four points clear after two of the chasing pack, Bridlington Town and Scarborough Athletic, tasted defeat.
Bridlington found themselves three goals down by half-time at Winterton Rangers, Andy Walkden, Liam Wilkin and Gavin Cooper finding the net.
And, although the Seasiders opened their account early in the second half through Billy Logan, the hosts were 3-1 winners and climb up into the top six.
Scarborough were 3-1 up at home to Barton Town Old Boys as the game went into the final half-hour at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium.
Tom Lee netted his second for Barton on 64 minutes before Martin Cooper restored parity and Richard Medcalf snatched victory in stoppage time for the visitors' seventh straight league win.
Tadcaster Albion took advantage of other sides' slip-ups as Nick Thompson's solitary strike on the hour at Arnold Town moved them up into second spot.
Staveley Miners Welfare are now fifth, replacing Thackley who they beat 3-1 at Inkersall Road, Joe Thornton and Simon Barraclough with the second-half strikes that claimed the victory.
Adam Shepherd and William Senior scored in the first 28 minutes to earn Parkgate a 2-1 victory at Hall Road Rangers.
A Luke Gibson hat-trick helped Brighouse Town to a 5-0 home win over Lincoln Moorlands Railway whilst Maltby Main drew 1-1 with fellow strugglers Pickering Town at Muglet Lane.
With Division One leaders Worksop Parramore without a game, Albion Sports took to the summit as an Aron Heywood hat-trick secured a 3-1 victory at Askern Villa.
They are ahead of Pontefract Collieries on goal difference who moved into second with a 4-0 win over hosts Yorkshire Amateur, Liam Ormsby leading the way with two of their goals.
Glasshoughton Welfare also climbed above Parramore into third, a point behind the top two, as Nathan Dixon's 66th minute strike saw them win 1-0 at Eccleshill United.
Handsworth are fifth after their 2-2 draw at Teversal whilst an 85th-minute winner from Damion Liddle earned Hemsworth Miners Welfare a 2-1 win at home to Rossington Main to move them into the top six.
Dinnington Town won 3-1 against Bottesford Town at Phoenix Park whilst bottom side Appleby Frodingham's woes continued as they were beaten 6-0 by visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Two games were called off, Nostell Miners Welfare at home to Armthorpe Welfare in the Premier Division and, in Division One, AFC Emley's clash with Louth Town.
