Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #23
11th December, 2011
Retford United surged back to the top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division with a 4-0 victory at Liversedge on Saturday.
The Badgers were ahead in the fourth minute through Ricky Chambers but had to wait until just before the hour mark to double their advantage with a Warren Hatfield strike.
Chambers converted a penalty with five minutes to go and Chris Hall added the fourth in stoppage time.
Retford replace Scarborough Athletic at the summit after the Seadogs went down 2-1 at Barton Town Old Boys.
They had taken the lead on 40 minutes through Joe Naylor but Scott Phillips quickly restored parity and the winner came for the hosts on the hour, courtesy of Tom Lee.
Scarborough are now third as Bridlington Town's 3-1 home win over Winterton Rangers took the Seasiders above their tenants.
Craig Hogg and Craig Palmer had Bridlington two up by the interval, Gavin Cooper sparked a mini-comeback for Rangers on 75 but Nathan Cook made sure of the victory soon after.
Fourth-placed Tadcaster Albion's game at home to Arnold Town was called off due to a frozen pitch, one of two Premier Division matches that was postponed along with Lincoln Moorlands Railway's clash with Brighouse Town.
But, Thackley missed out on a chance to close the gap on the top four as first-half goals from Kyle Fores-Chambers and Jorgan Eagers saw them go down 2-1 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare.
They stay in fifth spot ahead of Staveley on goal difference.
Maltby Main moved off the bottom of the table after Ben Langford's 63rd minute goal claimed a 1-0 triumph at Pickering Town.
Replacing them in the basement is Selby Town who went down 2-0 at Long Eaton United, Matt Weightman and Michael Armstrong with a goal in each half.
Armthorpe Welfare were 6-1 winners at home to Nostell Miners Welfare with Henry Sibenge grabbing a brace.
But, Nathan Swindells went one better for Parkgate as his hat-trick helped them to a 4-2 home victory over Hall Road Rangers.
Only three matches survived the cold snap in Division One and there was a shock for leaders Worksop Parramore who lost 5-1 at Rossington Main.
Lee Holmes and Zeph Thomas both struck twice for the hosts to consolidate eighth spot for Main.
Fifth-placed Eccleshill United closed the gap with the top to three points with a 6-3 victory at Grimsby Borough.
The Eagles were 3-2 down by the break but a second half revival, including a Victor Balis hat-trick, took the points.
And, Hallam, who found themselves 2-0 up after eight minutes with goals from Liam Morris and Aaron Moxam, had to be content with a draw after a second-half brace from Scott Wilby saw them finish 2-2 at Bottesford Town.
