Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #19
27th November, 2011
All four of the top sides in the Baris NCEL Premier Division won on Saturday, keeping the gap between the leading quartet at just two points as it continues to shape up to be one of the tightest title challenges of recent seasons.
Four goals from the division's top scorer Craig Hogg kept Bridlington Town at the top of the pack with their 5-2 home win over Staveley Miners Welfare who drop to sixth.
Retford United withheld a late comeback from hosts Nostell Miners Welfare to win 4-3 and stay second.
The Badgers came from behind to lead 4-1 by the hour mark, with help from a Warren Hatfield double, before Nostell gave them a fright in the last seven minutes with a James Eyles penalty and an injury-time goal from David Watts.
Curtis Bernard struck a hat-trick for third-placed Scarborough Athletic in their 4-1 victory at Armthorpe Welfare.
And, Steven Jeff also netted three times for Tadcaster Albion as they won by the same scoreline at home to bottom side Maltby Main to keep them fourth.
Thackley moved up into fifth with a 1-1 draw at Lincoln Moorlands Railway but they will have been disappointed not to have taken all three points after Luke Forbes cancelled out Andy Philp's early strike for the visitors in injury time.
Goals from Christopher Wood, Nathan Swindells, Gareth Clayton and Ashley Worsfold saw Parkgate win 4-0 at home to next-to-bottom Selby Town and close the gap on the top six.
Liversedge were also 4-0 victors on their own patch, beating Hall Road Rangers, whilst braces each from Anthony Haigh and Tom Matthews made it a comfortable afternoon for Brighouse Town in their 5-1 win at Pickering Town.
Barton Town Old Boys won 4-2 at home to Arnold Town whilst Long Eaton United's injury-time equaliser saw them draw 1-1 with visitors Winterton Rangers.
Pontefract Collieries missed out on a chance to go top of Division One as they went down 2-1 to visitors Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
Ryan Poskitt put them ahead directly from a corner after two minutes but Damion Liddle and Lewis Pearce struck in the final quarter of the game to take the points for the away team.
The Colls were the only top five side to have a game as Worksop Parramore and Handsworth had a free Saturday and the clash between Albion Sports and Glasshoughton Welfare was called off an hour before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch.
It was a miserable afternoon for the division's bottom two teams with basement side Appleby Frodingham losing 3-0 at Shirebrook Town, courtesy of goals from Daniel McLane, Julian Topliss and Brendan Sweeney.
And, Askern Villa went down 6-1 at Eccleshill United with Marcus Edwards netting a hat-trick for the hosts who are eighth.
Colin Cockerill's penalty five minutes from time saw Teversal take all three points in a 3-2 victory at Bottesford Town.
The other three matches ended in draws with Grimsby Borough finishing their home game 1-1 with Dinnington Town and it was 2-2 in Rossington Main's clash with Louth Town and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic versus AFC Emley.
