Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #17

20th November, 2011

Five Baris NCEL teams have made it through to the Third Round of the FA Vase this weekend whilst Retford United missed out on a chance to go top of the Premier Division and the race for the Division One title continues to be very tight.

Armthorpe Welfare progressed in the Vase in the only all-NCEL clash as the Premier Division side won 3-1 at their Division One hosts, Eccleshill United.

Joe Lumsden had them ahead by the interval and Ben Muirhead doubled their advantage soon after the break.

Jermaine Springer's 57th minute own goal put the game beyond doubt before Marcus Edwards got a late consolation for Eccleshill.

Two strikes in sixty first-half seconds saw Staveley Miners Welfare win 2-1 at Ashville whilst Josh Greening netted in the 20th minute to see Bridlington Town through by a single goal at home to Gillford Park.

Goals in the last quarter of the game from Tom McLaughlin, Bradley Johnston and Gary Collier claimed a 5-2 victory for Askern Villa at Padiham.

And, a brace each from Ashley Worsfold and Christopher Wood earned Parkgate an excellent 4-3 home win over Bedlington Terriers.

Four teams bowed out of the competition against sides from other leagues.

Tadcaster Albion put up a brave fight at Whitley Bay, who have won the competition for the last three years, but ultimately went down 4-1.

Glasshoughton Welfare were beaten 2-0 at home by Runcorn Town whilst Long Eaton United lost 3-0 to visitors St Ives Town and Barton Town Old Boys tasted defeat at Newcastle Benfield, 2-1.

In Premier Division action, Retford were unable to depose Bridlington at the top of the table as they went down 2-0 at Thackley.

Goals from Rob Morgan and Chris Davey mean the home side are sixth, just four points behind the leaders.

A late, late show from Scarborough Athletic saw them close to within two points of Bridlington in third spot following a 5-2 victory at Selby Town.

The scores were tied with fifteen minutes to go before Dean Windass put the Seadogs ahead, Bill Law added their fourth and Curtis Bernard completed his hat-trick to secure the win for Rudy Funk's side.

Selby remain next-to-bottom, three points clear of Maltby Main who were beaten 2-0 at home by Hall Road Rangers, Paul Wilson and Liam Cattermole with the goals.

Pickering Town moved away from the bottom two with a vital 2-1 win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Jonathan Birbeck and Joel Ramm ensuring they came from behind to defeat their hosts.

Arnold Town were 4-2 home winners over Liversedge whilst Nostell Miners Welfare picked up three points on their travels, defeating Winterton Rangers, 3-1.

Worksop Parramore won the battle of the top two in Baris NCEL Division One as a first-half Tom Nolan brace and a second-half strike from Adam Fretwell beat hosts Pontefract Collieries, 3-0.

Parramore stay at the summit on goal difference over Albion Sports and Handsworth who both leapt over the Colls who drop into fourth.

Alex Cusack found the net four times for Sports as they won 7-1 at Teversal and Handsworth were 4-1 victors at AFC Emley, David Cockerill with two whilst Sam Smith and Daniel Ingham also got on the scoresheet.

At the other end of the table, basement side Appleby Frodingham picked up only their second win of the season but they had to wait until the 85th minute to get the winner, Chris McDonald with his second of the afternoon in a 3-2 victory at home to Bottesford Town.

Adam Shaw and Nathan Thomas both struck twice in a 5-2 home victory for Yorkshire Amateur over Rossington Main.

There were also home wins for Hallam and Hemsworth Miners Welfare against Grimsby Borough and Shirebrook Town, respectively.

And, the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw between Louth Town and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
