Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #16
17th November, 2011
Baris NCEL Premier Division leaders Bridlington Town have moved a point clear at the top of the table after a 2-2 draw at Selby Town in midweek.
The form guide suggested that the Seasiders should have taken the victory at their next-to-bottom hosts.
And, with fourteen minutes remaining, it looked as though they were going to as they had come from behind to lead with goals from Ashley Allanson and Danny Brunton.
But, Craig Heard struck his second of the evening to earn Selby a share of the spoils.
Staveley Miners Welfare snatched a last-gasp victory to move above their hosts Scarborough Athletic into fourth spot.
Christopher Coy had given the visitors a third minute lead that was cancelled out just before the interval by Joe Naylor.
Joe Thornton, however, popped up to make it 2-1 to Staveley in second half stoppage time.
Thackley missed out on a chance to climb into the top six as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Armthorpe Welfare.
Only goal difference separates the top four in Division One after Albion Sports, Pontefract Collieries and Handsworth all won to join leaders Worksop Parramore on 36 points.
Steve Lyon's 32nd minute strike helped Pontefract up into second with a 1-0 victory at Rossington Main.
Albion Sports are now third after a remarkable 5-4 win at AFC Emley, Karl Hall with what proved to be the winner with seventeen minutes remaining in a match that could have gone either way.
It was a bit simpler for Handsworth who beat hosts, bottom side Appleby Frodingham, 5-0, with a David Cockerill brace leading the way to three points that moves them up into fourth.
Grimsby Borough joined Louth Town in the Semi-Finals of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy with a 2-1 victory at Teversal, Josh Fuller with the 68th minute winner.
And, Winterton Rangers are the first into the last four of the President's Cup, Liam Wilkin netting the only goal of the game at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Long Eaton United were the only Baris NCEL side to progress in the County Cups in midweek, a Paul Gamble hat-trick helping them to a 5-0 win at home to Glapwell in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
But, Shirebrook Town are out of that competition after going down 4-0 at Graham Street Prims.
Hall Road Rangers were knocked out of the East Riding Senior Cup, 3-1, by St Andrews whilst Nostell Miners Welfare's participation in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup is over after their 2-1 home defeat to Penistone Church.
