Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #9
4th September, 2011
Four Baris NCEL sides booked their place in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with victories at the weekend whilst there are six replays in midweek to see which of their league rivals will join them on the Road to Wembley.
Armthorpe Welfare and Arnold Town went through at the expense of higher league opposition.
Darren Mansaram and Leo Fortune-West scored in each half to earn Armthorpe a 2-0 home win over Brigg Town whilst Lincoln United were thrashed 5-1 at Arnold.
The visitors had taken the lead early on before an own goal levelled the scores almost immediately.
Liam Garner gave the Eagles a slim advantage at the interval before the hosts took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second period with further strikes from Martin Carruthers, Willis Francis and Josh Schofield.
Louth Town were 3-1 winners at Holbrook Sports with Steve Norton scoring twice in the victory over East Midlands Counties League opposition and Tadcaster Albion progressed 3-2 at fellow Baris NCEL side, Pontefract Collieries, with Jordan Hopcutt's 80th-minute goal proving to be the winner.
Of the six replays, three saw Baris NCEL sides go to sides above them in the National League System and earn the right to face their opponents at home in midweek.
Staveley Miners Welfare were denied a victory at Goole AFC when Simon Barraclough's strike was cancelled out in the 87th minute, Glasshoughton Welfare drew 0-0 at Ossett Town and Carl Haslam levelled for Shirebrook Town at Gresley where it ended 1-1.
The three remaining matches were all-Baris NCEL affairs and all ended 2-2 with Liversedge being held at home by Pickering Town, Hall Road Rangers drawing at Parkgate and Scarborough Athletic finishing level with visitors Barton Town Old Boys.
Thackley bowed out of the competition in cruel fashion on Sunday afternoon as a last-minute winner saw hosts Wakefield go through by a single goal.
There were four matches in the Premier Division and Winterton Rangers moved to the top of the table with a 6-0 win at Maltby Main.
Danny Frost struck twice whilst James O'Neill, Robert Sanderson, Liam Wilkin and Aaron Moxam also found the net in what was a comfortable afternoon for the visitors.
Brighouse Town climbed into third as Steve Hollingworth and Shane Hamilton struck for them in a 2-1 win at bottom side Selby Town.
Barry Payne scored late on for Retford United to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Bridlington Town in a top five tussle.
And, it was the same scoreline at Nostell Miners Welfare where Long Eaton United snatched the draw with a 79th minute Wayne Ball own goal.
Worksop Parramore stay at the top of Division One after Andrew Wood's early strike was enough to beat struggling hosts Teversal, 1-0, and they remain ahead on goal difference of Handsworth who won 4-0 at Grimsby Borough.
Lee Hill and David Cockerill gave Handsworth a two goal cushion by the break, Cockerill then added a third from the spot on the hour mark and Alex Torr completed the scoring with twelve minutes remaining.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare are third after Damion Liddle's brace helped them to a 3-1 win at Bottesford Town whilst Rossington Main are in fourth, thanks to Lee Holmes' 15th minute goal in their 1-0 victory at Askern Villa.
Marcus Edwards struck a hat-trick for Eccleshill United in their 6-0 home defeat of Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and there were no goals between Dinnington Town and Yorkshire Amateur.
