Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #7

30th August, 2011

Staveley Miners Welfare are top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division after two wins over the Bank Holiday weekend kept their 100% record going.

The Inkersall Road side are the only top flight team to have a perfect record after Saturday's 3-1 home win over Selby Town and then Monday's single goal victory at home to Maltby Main.

The weekend did not start well, though, when they conceded to the Robins in the opening seconds through Craig Aspinall.

But, Christopher Coy levelled the scores before half-time and Joe Thornton and Jordan Eagers grabbed the win in the last ten minutes.

Thornton was then the hero again against Maltby as he struck the only goal of that game just after the hour mark.

Staveley's nearest rivals are Retford United and Winterton Rangers who picked up four and six points, respectively, over their two games.

A last-gasp Adam Scott penalty saw Retford win 1-0 at Long Eaton United on Saturday before the tables were turned on Monday and Graeme Whitehead struck an injury-time equaliser for Tadcaster Albion in their 2-2 draw at the Badgers.

Winterton followed up their 2-1 victory over hosts Thackley on Saturday with a win by the same scoreline at home to Brighouse Town, Tom Brown's own goal in the 77th minute proving the vital strike in that encounter.

Bridlington Town scored eight goals in their two matches to move up into fourth spot.

Nathan Cook, Josh Greening, Ashley Allanson and Billy Logan netted in their 4-0 win at home to Hall Road Rangers on Saturday and Greening also got on the scoresheet twice as they beat hosts Arnold Town, 4-2, 48 hours later.

Liversedge complete the top five after wins at Barton Town Old Boys and at home to Thackley.

Two goals in the last two minutes from Alex Hallam and a Brook Newton penalty claimed a 3-1 victory on Saturday whilst Joe Jagger and then Hallam struck late in the game on Monday to win 2-0.

The biggest winners on Saturday were Tadcaster Albion who picked up their first win of the season by beating visitors Nostell Miners Welfare 6-1 whilst Parkgate were 5-3 home winners over Armthorpe Welfare, Brighouse won 2-0 at home to Maltby Main and the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw between Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Arnold.

On Monday, a Shaun Rickford hat-trick helped Long Eaton to a 3-1 win at Scarborough Athletic, Keir Hannity's last minute winner earned Parkgate a 2-1 victory at Nostell, Lincoln Moorlands won by a single goal at bottom side Selby and Hall Road Rangers won 3-0 at home to Pickering Town.

There was only one round of Division One matches with nine games played on Saturday and Worksop Parramore continue to set the early pace.

The Baris NCEL newcomers lead the table with twelve points from five games after a 6-1 home win over Appleby Frodingham, Simon Asquith with a hat-trick for Pete Whitehead's side.

Pontefract Collieries are second with a perfect start to the campaign after their 5-0 victory over visitors Grimsby Borough with goals from Liam Ormsby, Will Ramsey, Greig McGrory, Scott McGrory and Jonathan Forsyth.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare won by the same scoreline at home to Yorkshire Amateur to be in third with Andrew Hayward netting a brace whilst Sam Smith's 66th-minute winner saw Handsworth prevail 2-1 on their own turf against Eccleshill United to move up into fourth.

A Daniel MacKenzie hat-trick ensured a 5-3 victory for Dinnington Town at Rossington Main whilst AFC Emley won 2-0 at Teversal.

And, there were home victories for Askern Villa and Bottesford Town who beat Worsbrough Bridge Athletic 3-2 and Albion Sports 3-1, respectively.
